Valerie Jean Akers

Valerie Jean Akers, 59, of Annandale, Virginia passed away on April 3, 2019. Valerie was born on Fort Campbell, Kentucky, but was a resident of Annandale for the past 28 years. She is the daughter of Richard and Margaret Akers; sister of Kathleen (Stephen) Nary and Peggy (Alan) Miller; step-daughter of Arlene Akers; and step-sister of Darla (Irving) Tillman and Alan (Tammy) Kirkman. She will always be Sam to her nieces Mary (Keith) Freeman, Colleen Nary, Grace Nary, and Kayla Freeman and nephews Stephen (Mark Walker) Nary, Richard Nary, and Gabriel Freeman. Valerie worked for the Mitre Corporation for many years. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Annandale, a member of the Annandale Swim & Tennis Club, and a leader with both the Boys Scouts and Girls Scouts of America. She will be missed by her loving family and friends. Friends are welcome on Sunday, April 14 from 1-3 & 5-7 pm at Demaine Funeral Home, Springfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 15 at 10 am at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Annandale. Interment will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Valerie’s memory to the American Cancer Society.
