Eugene Alfred Brunelle

Eugene Alfred Brunelle passed away peacefully at his home on 6/4/19 at the age of 93. Born in Providence, R.I., on 10/31/1925, he attended Central High and later served in the US army during WWII as a code specialist. Eugene then graduated from Harvard in 1950, having earned his degree in English Literature. He then married Hilda Routledge of Boston, started a family, and moved to California. While working as a college English teacher, he obtained two masters' degrees. He later moved back east to Buffalo, NY, where he continued to teach and received his doctorate in education. He served as library director at St. Mary's college of Maryland and East Carolina University, where he married his second wife, Edith Walker. He lived the rest of his life in Fredericksburg, VA. He enjoyed running, boating, and religious studies.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Hilda Routledge, in September 1979, and his second wife, Edith Walker, in February 1999. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Yates, grandchildren, Sarah Simmons and Amanda Kidd, nephew John Torbert, and one great-grandchild, Charles Simmons. The family will be having a private graveside service at a later date.
