Steven Neumann

Samuel Stephen Neumann, 66, of Evansville, IN, passed away on Friday, June 7, 2019, at Pine Haven Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on October 26, 1952, in Evansville, to the late Samuel and Helen Neumann. Steve graduated from Mater Dei High School and served in the Indiana National Guard in the 1970s. He worked at Ball Plastics before buying and operating Kwik Stop Liquors at Columbia and Third Avenue for 30 years. He also developed and put into production in 1998 his own barbecue sauces, Steve’s Oink-n-Squeel Original and Squeelbanero, and stayed busy stocking local markets with his products. He was especially proud when Rural King began stocking his sauces. He loved to barbecue and smoke meats and competed for years in barbecue contests in the area conducted by Memphis in May and Kansas City Barbecue Society, winning numerous awards. His sauce was chosen first place in the 2014 National Barbecue Association competition. He loved his 1976 green Camaro, and used to spend many summers along the river with friends, cooking and boating. Spending time at Kentucky and Barkley lakes, fishing all day, was his favorite vacation. He loved NASCAR, Cardinals baseball, Colts football and his puppies. Steve is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joan Cameron Neumann; his sons Stephen Andrew of Schererville, IN, and Zachary Thomas of Evansville. Also, daughter Mindy Hedrick and grandson Shane Hedrick of Evansville. He is also survived by his in-laws: Tom and Deb Steiman-Cameron of Indianapolis; Gary and Becky Cameron, James and Justine Cameron, Patty and Greg Kopp, all of Evansville; Benny Cameron and Chris Price of Boonville; and Kelley and Mark Dix of Baghdad, Florida. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Christy Cameron Meinerding, Jill Cameron Wolf, Matt Cameron, Jacob, Daniel and Amanda Kopp, Mary Ann Casteel, Jeanine and John Cameron, and Noah and Ezra Steiman-Cameron, and Mia Dix. A memorial service will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 10, at Alexander North Chapel, officiated by Fr. Ted Tempel, with visitation to follow until 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Ozanam Family Shelter or the American Diabetes Association.
