He was born on October 26, 1952, in Evansville, to the late Samuel and Helen Neumann. Steve graduated from Mater Dei High School and served in the Indiana National Guard in the 1970s. He worked at Ball Plastics before buying and operating Kwik Stop Liquors at Columbia and Third Avenue for 30 years. He also developed and put into production in 1998 his own barbecue sauces, Steve’s Oink-n-Squeel Original and Squeelbanero, and stayed busy stocking local markets with his products. He was especially proud when Rural King began stocking his sauces. He loved to barbecue and smoke meats and competed for years in barbecue contests in the area conducted by Memphis in May and Kansas City Barbecue Society, winning numerous awards. His sauce was chosen first place in the 2014 National Barbecue Association competition. He loved his 1976 green Camaro, and used to spend many summers along the river with friends, cooking and boating. Spending time at Kentucky and Barkley lakes, fishing all day, was his favorite vacation. He loved NASCAR, Cardinals baseball, Colts football and his puppies. Steve is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joan Cameron Neumann; his sons Stephen Andrew of Schererville, IN, and Zachary Thomas of Evansville. Also, daughter Mindy Hedrick and grandson Shane Hedrick of Evansville.
