Gene A. Powell

Gene A. Powell, 77, Newburgh, IN, passed away on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at his home. He was born on September 23, 1941 in Cave-In-Rock, IL to the late Ellis and Nelly Mae (Estes) Powell. He retired from Alcoa Industries after 30 years and then worked as a professional contractor for 15 years, at Remodeling Concepts. Gene was a member of Boonville Wesleyan Church. He played music for the church as well as several area nursing homes. Gene loved country, bluegrass and gospel music. Gene is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Will Powell; sisters, Louis Hall, Wilma Phillips and Jenny Hall; and grandson J J Foster. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Marlene Powell; brother, Ellis Powell Jr.; sisters, Roberta Rushing and Rosie Hertel; sons, Shawn Powell and Sean Datzman; daughters, Darnise Kasper, Marlo Hamilton and Gina Young; grandchildren, Jesse Holder, Kayla Hedge, Alexandra Enright, Tristin Hamilton, Dawson Hamilton, Angel McKinney, Heath Young, Seth Young and Courtney Young; great-grandchildren, Mia Callahan, Bella Enright, Abbi Holder, Lincoln Young, Summer Burns and Erick Cashen. A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday June 29, 2019 at Boonville Wesleyan Church with Pastor Joseph Wriston officiating. Friends may visit 3-7 pm Monday, June 24, 2019 at Alexander East Chapel, 2115 Lincoln Ave, Evansville, IN.
