Obituary of Joseph "Joe" B. Taylor
Joseph B. “Joe” Taylor, age 90, of Whitehall died Saturday (07/13/19) at I.U. Health; Bloomington Hospital. Born April 10, 1929 in Paoli, Indiana, he was the son of Arthur Thomas and Mary Blanche (Jones) Taylor. His family was part of the family of Quakers that settled the Paoli, Indiana community. His family moved to Bloomington when he was nine months old. Joe attended Bloomington High School but had to go to work at a very early age to support his family. Throughout the years he worked as an over the road truck driver at 16 years of age hauling limestone blocks and coal and at a local furniture manufacturer building furniture. He later worked as a heavy equipment operator for Rogers Ready-Mix Concrete and then Rogers Crushed Stone from 1952 to 1990. He later became a Master Clock Maker. Joe was a member of the Union of Operating Engineers and Central Wesleyan Church. He was a past member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. He centered himself around his faith and family. Joe enjoyed woodworking, fishing and studying W.W. II history. Joe proudly served in the U.S. Army Armored Tank Division during the Korean War stationed in Badtolz, Germany. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Geneva (Deckard) Taylor, of Whitehall; his daughter, Debora Taylor, of Bloomington; his grandson and wife, Travis McHaley and Jane ShenMcHaley, of Bloomington and one great-grandson, Joseph Jerry Travis McHaley as well as another great-grandchild to be born in September. He is also survived by his pet maltese, Dayce. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers and sisters and one brother at birth. The funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Day & Deremiah-Frye Funeral Home; 4150 E. Third St. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
