Obituary of Joan R. Grundhoefer
Joan R. Grundhoefer, 76, of Newburgh, IN passed away Sunday, July 14, 2019 at Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville. She was born in Dale, IN on May 7, 1943 to the late Herman and Rose Eble. She worked as a Stylish/Hairdresser for 17 years, followed by Sears and Old National Bank. Joan loved to travel all over the USA and visited Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Italy and Thailand. She especially enjoyed two months of winter vacation in Florida with her husband, sister, family, and friends. Joan loved to cruise and her favorite was a Disney Cruise with her family. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church where she served on the bereavement team. Known as “Grandma Joan” to her two grandsons, she was a remarkable woman and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Order and neatness were important to her. An avid home decorator, Joan left her footprints all over the family home with pictures, a design layout of the home, decorating, and style. In her younger life, she enjoyed playing tennis. Later, her favorite pastimes were reading, Sudoku puzzles, watching HGTV, Wheel of Fortune, a glass of wine and a good sunset. She was known for her laughter, her voice, enthusiasm and smile. Joan had a great memory of past events, knowing all the little details, names and locations she had been. She was Ron’s “Google” source for information. She truly enjoyed her life, accomplishments, friends and family. She will be greatly missed by her husband, son, grandkids, daughter-in-law, and all of her friends. Joan was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Eble and his wife, Maggie; sister, Donna Leinbach and her husband, Lee; and brother-in-law, Mick Davis. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Ronald; son, Douglas (Amy Marra) of Arlington, VA; grandsons, Mason and Finn Grundhoefer; sisters, Mary Ann Davis of Eastland, TX, Ruth Stephens of Indianapolis, IN, Shirley Geisier of Oakdale, CA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joan dearly loved her grandkids and family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 18, 2019 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel with entombment in St. John Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum. Friends may visit 5-7 p.m. Wednesday and 10:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Linda E. White Hospice House, Chancellor Center for Oncology, or Chemo Buddies.
