Obituary of Vestal L. Barger
Vestal Leo Barger, 88, of Bloomington left his earthly life, Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Owen Valley Health Campus. He was born January 26, 1931 the ninth of ten children to James S and Lillie Walls Barger. He was retired from Bybee Stone Mill. Survivors include a son and daughter in law, Terry and MaryBeth Barger, a daughter and son in law Carol Ann and Paul Michael Bonney, all of Bloomington. Four grandchildren, Kivan Barger, Andrew (Jennifer) Benson, Tyler (Shayna) Bonney, Brittany (Tyler) DePriest. Seven grandchildren, Kyson Barger, Ellie Benson, Anna Benson, Kierra Bonney, Scarlet Bonney, Nolan DePriest and Isla DePriest. A sister in law, Delores "Sis" (Bill) Burnette, two brothers in law, James R "Bobby" (Lynda) Pate Jr., and Charles Pate, along with several nieces and nephews. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Joyce Pate on August 12, 1950. After 68 years of marriage she preceded him in death in February, 2019. Vestal was a wonderful example of a devoted husband as he lovingly took care of Carolyn during her decline in health. He was also preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, Leonard, Bill, Gerald, Leroy and Dale; 4 sisters, Roxie, Dorothy, Opal and Marie, Vestal was a lifelong member of Family Life Church. He loved spending time with his family, church family and friends, He enjoyed camping, playing guitar, singing at church, home and around the campfire. He was an avid sports fan whether it was the local high schools, IU or the Colts. Vestal was a blacksmith by trade making many tools for Matthew Brothers and Bybee Stone Mill. After retiring he continued his skills by making many iron crafts for family that they will enjoy for many years to come. He will be loved and greatly missed by his family and friends. Visitation for Vestal will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2019 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in Family Life Church, 8449 N. Fox Hollow Rd. The funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m. also in the church with Pastor Tracy Noel officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
