Obituary of Wanda Catherine (Nichols) Rebenack
Wanda Catherine Rebenack, 95, passed away on May 17th at Homewood Nursing Home in Lebanon. Wanda was born December 9, 1924 in Montgomery County to Perry E. Nichols and Mary K. Hostetter. Raised during the Great Depression in an orphanage and foster homes in Montgomery and Boone Counties, Wanda graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1942. She then studied nursing and graduated from the Indianapolis City Hospital in 1945. She married Carl Heinz Rebenack in 1946. She went on to have a distinguished career in nursing for over 30 years and retired in 1986 from Methodist Hospital. After retirement, Wanda was a volunteer for St. Vincent Hospice for over 19 years. She was known to tell her patients "Life is short. Eat dessert first." She was also a longtime member of Roberts Park Methodist Church in Indianapolis. Wanda was a Chicago Cubs fan, collected angels, loved ice cream, roses, redbirds, Christmas presents, and most of all her great-grandson, John. Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Rebenack; son-in-law, Phillip Guinnup; parents, Perry E. and Mary K. Nichols; and 6 siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Guinnup (David Quackenbush) of Plainfield; granddaughter, Jodi (James) Jackson of rural Jamestown; and great-grandson, John Jackson of rural Jamestown. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and her family of caretakers from Homewood. A visitation for Wanda will be held Saturday, May 23, 2020 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Leppert Mortuaries – Nora, 740 East 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240. Social distancing, masks, and a 25 person at a time rotation will be practiced, please feel welcome to come pay your respects and await instruction from staff in your vehicle. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM also at the mortuary with a limit of 25 attendees. Entombment will follow at Lincoln Memory Gardens in Whitestown, Indiana.
