Obituary of Wanda Lucile Wright Edwards
Wanda Wright Edwards, age 94, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at 10:35 pm on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. Wanda, beloved mother, died at home, in the arms of her loving family. Born December 13th, 1925 in New Brunswick, Maine, New England to Dr. Oris H and Nina (Gregory) Wright. She attended Sullivan Schools in Sullivan, IN graduating in 1943. She then attended Indiana State University, Terre Haute for her under grad degree in 1948. Wanda then went to Ball State University for her Master’s Degree in 1965. She was an elementary music teacher for 40 years, mostly in Kokomo Center Schools in Kokomo, IN. Wanda was joined in marriage to Robert Ross Edwards of Noblesville, IN on July 4, 1948 at St. Steven’s Episcopal Church in Terre Haute. He and one son, Jon Kip Edwards Sr. of Kokomo and one brother, Robert Wright Esq. of San Francisco and Carmel, CA preceded her in death. Wanda is survived by a son, David (Debbie) Edwards of Kokomo, and a daughter, Nina Edwards-Swain (Thomas) of Westfield, IN. Eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Too many adored nieces and nephews to count. She was also commonly referred to as “Mom” by many others, especially, Teresa Marie Cavazos. Wanda was a church organist and choir director at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Noblesville, Indiana (where she was a founding member) and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Kokomo for over 25 years. She was also a member of St. Anne’s Guild, Faith Alive Ministries, Curisillo (Great Banquet) and Order of St. Luke Healing Ministries. Wanda was a founding member of Kokomo Community Concerts and served in every office over the years. She was also a founding member of Kokomo Symphony Orchestra, where she played timpani and she played keyboards in Kokomo Keyboard Kappers. Wanda was an active member of RHO Chapter of Sigma Eta Sorority and served at every level locally and nationally. She also was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota Sorority and enjoyed teaching English as a second language for over 30 years. A celebration of Wanda’s life will be held at a future date for family and close friends.
