Deloris A. Skogen, 85, died peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at her daughter’s home in Indianapolis. She was born on July 13, 1935, to the late Martin and Bernice (Rogers) Cahoy in Winner, South Dakota. Deloris was known by many different names – Dee, mom, ma, mama, kettle, nammies, grezzy, greazer and sis. Deloris retired from St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, IN in 1997. Deloris was all about family. Family was the most important part of her life. Her hobbies over the years included gardening, baking, painting and printing pictures of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
No services will be held at this time due to Covid. A family gathering will take place in 2021.
Deloris was preceded in death by her parents, Donald Cahoy (brother), Richard Johnson, Jr. (son), Richard Johnson, Sr. (husband) and Ray Skogen (husband). Deloris is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings and many nieces and nephews. Family includes children Laura Dughaish (Khalil), Debbie Austin (Tom), Don Johnson (Phyllis), Carole Byrum (Tom) and Judi Smith (Tom). Grandchildren Jeremy Heerdink (Shelina), Darrick Johnson (Heather), Sabria Elder (Jimmy), Ibrahim Dughaish (Heather), Andrew Byrum (Abby), Nathan Smith, Katie Smith and Jordan Smith. Great-grandchildren include Elena Heerdink, Annika Heerdink, Emory Heerdink, Nyala Elder, Kaden Elder, Link Johnson and Leah Johnson. Siblings Nel McCravy, Larry Cahoy (Diane) and Joyce Hagel (Virgil).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Ascension St. Vincent Hospice, 8402 Harcourt Road, Indianapolis, IN 46260. Please note donation is being made in Deloris' name.
