Mary Katherine Wormcastle

Mary Katherine Wormcastle, 72, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday, October 8, 2020. She was born to the late John William and Louise (Hicks) Cornell Sr. in Louisville, KY on August 12, 1948. She will be missed every day by her husband, Joseph A. Wormcastle, who was the only one who called her “Mary” - and then only on certain occasions. To her many, many friends she was “Katie.” And boy did she have friends! They were drawn to her sharp mind which allowed her to see to the heart of any issue, her warm smile and hearty laugh and to the trait she was best known for – her loyalty. She stood by her friends through thick and thin. One of her friends, upon learning of her passing, said, “She always made me feel good about myself.” That is so true! And oh, how she doted on her family. Katie and Joe were not just an example of a good marriage, they were partners in all things; whether it was going to the races or to the beaches it is difficult to think of one without the other – again her loyalty shone like the brightest moon. She showed her love for her son Peter J. (Lisa A.) Wormcastle and her granddaughter, Mary Wormcastle by never failing to be there when they needed a loving shoulder to lean on. Katie was a respected technician before retiring from the Fort Wayne Police Department after many years of loyal service. She was known to the officers and “brass” alike as someone they could count on to get it right. She is also survived by her brother, Archie Cornell of Springfield, OH; sisters, Elizabeth Byron of Louisville, KY, Susan Garr Pohl of Louisville, KY and Louise E. Gabriel of Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by her brother, John William Cornell Jr. Upon Mary's wishes there will be no services.
