Leroy Knowles

LeRoy Knowles, age 74, passed away on June 3, 2019 in Jacksonville, Florida. He was born with his twin Laverne on August 6,1944, the youngest of 12, to Robert Brooks and Irene Brennan. After Irene’s passing, Robert later remarried and had 4 more children. At 6 months, LeRoy was adopted into the loving home of Nellie and Elmer Knowles who had 4 children of their own.
LeRoy attended Englewood. He was as a member of the Moose Lodge #455. He found his career on the water as a tugboat Captain with McAllister, Crowley, & Colonial Oil and would retire after 44 years to battle cancer.
Leroy’s love for his family and friends was undeniable. He loved playing the spoons with his musically talented family, calling on the phone, a good joke, the claw machine to win a prize for the kids, picking out personal cards for the wife he adored, a good song and dance, and a burger, fries, and a Diet Coke.
LeRoy was predeceased by both his Brooks and Knowles parents, his brothers Jack, Bob, and Raymond Knowles and his sister Julia Cole(Frank). At the time of his passing, his surviving family include his beloved wife of 42 years, Sara (Sally) Massey Knowles, his children Tandria Marallo, Betty Knowles, Stacy Green, Scott Spooner(Valentyna), Mary Miller(Michael), and Anne Knowles; his grandchildren Trista Topkok, Harley Knowles, Levi Marallo, Justin Green, Sheridan, Kendall, & Joseph Miller, & Jett Bennett Spooner; and his great-grandchildren, Blaise Green and Nikolai Topkok.
LeRoy leaves behind a legacy of adventure, love, and resilience after facing many of life’s struggles. His memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
