Mildred E. Bird

Mildred E. Bird, 89, of Houston, Texas, passed away October 3, 2019. She was born in Halstead, Kansas on November 4, 1929 to Walter and Marie Bockhaus. She had a career as a Registered Nurse for Bayshore Hospital in Pasadena and prior with Methodist Hospital in Houston. Mildred was also a nurse in the Air Force, serving two active years (1951 - 1953) and then joining the reserves until being honorably discharged in 1956. She had a passion for gardening, both flower and vegetables. Mildred enjoyed needlepoint, tatting and quilting, and also loved taking care of her cats and dogs. She was preceded in death by her son James Michael Bird; her parents Marie and Walter Bockhaus; her brothers Arthur Bockhaus, William (Billy) Bockhaus; and her sister Ruth Bockhaus. Mildred is survived by her son Daniel W. Bird and his wife Sue; daughter Peggy L. Lane and her husband Thomas A. Lane; grandson Justin T. Bird and his wife Taryn and their children Olivia, Avery, and Darius; daughter-in-law Vicki Bird and former daughter-in-law Rebecca Bird; and her sister Betty Ann Bockhaus.
