I first met Ms Bessie (Betty) Wood at Tom and Daphne’s wedding on June 26, 2005. Overtime, she and I became good friends after many visits on holidays, birthdays, and no-special-occasion days. What struck me most about Betty was her charming personality, her quick wit, and her strong character. She exemplified a real Southern Belle all the way. We had many a conversation, and Betty shared many a story with me about her amazing life and her wonderful children. It was my privilege to have known this dear woman, who left a remarkable legacy behind her.

I met Betty when she was in her mid 80's and living with Tom and Daphne. I loved talking with her; she was sharp, funny, and could tell a good tale!I wish I had known her when she was younger-I bet she was a hoot! I truly enjoyed her and will miss spending time with her when I visit Tom and Daphne.

I remember Aunt Betty as the rock of the family. She was the one to turn to for advice or help. I remember one time when my little brother, David, ran into the side of a brick building and busted his head open. Our mom was not one to deal with blood, so we called Aunt Betty who came to the rescue. I will always think of her as a strong, honest, witty, woman of great character. Her memory will fondly live on. Until we meet again...

Soft-spoken but firm, with an ever present smile, Betty was always so kind and welcoming to me. I will always remember her as a grand, grand lady!
