Obituary of Ronald "Ron" Eugene McCurry
Ronald “Ron” Eugene McCurry, 82, of Bloomington died Tuesday, June 25, 2019 in I.U. Health Hospice House. He was born October 15, 1936 in Cumberland, Kentucky to Howard McCurry, Sr. and Della Johnson McCurry. He was retired from the Maintenance Department of the U. S. Postal Service. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Mary Sue McCurry of Bloomington; two sons, Scott McCurry of Newport Beach, California and Mike (wife Amy) McCurry of Clarendon Hills, Illinois; a daughter, Jonna (partner John McReynolds) McCurry of Seattle; two step sons, Chris (wife Lesley) Harder of Mooresville and Mike (wife Nichol) Harder of Indianapolis; a step daughter, Linda (husband Dean) Teagardin of Indianapolis; two sisters, Myrlene (husband Maurice) Himes of Indianapolis and Barbara Banyas of Cumberland, Kentucky; twelve grandchildren, Adrienne Donnella, Allison (Jesse) Cowden, Dylan Harder, Landon Harder, Sam Erwin, Micah McCurry, Abbey McCurry, Noah McCurry, Elizabeth McCurry, Cade Harder, Craig (Jessica) Teagardin and Amanda (Jerry) Rush; 13 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Howard McCurry, Jr. and his twin Donald; three sisters, Mildred Ramsey, Marge DeVane and Ruth McCurry. Memberships include Smithville Christian Church where he had been a deacon, the American Legion, Burton Woolery Post # 18 and was a Veteran of The United States Army. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid sports enthusiast and had coached many youth sports teams, particularly football teams while in Indianapolis. Ron had played football in High School, in the Army and had won a football scholarship to the University of Miami, Florida. In 2004 he was inducted into the Arsenal Tech High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday, July 1, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Smithville Christian Church, 7280 S Fairfax Rd, Bloomington with Pastor Stephen Johnson officiating; burial will follow at Clear Creek Cemetery with Military Honors given by the Monroe County Honor Guard. Visitation will be Monday prior to services from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Church. If friends so desire, Memorial Contributions may be made to I.U.
