My heart is sadden knowing those great words of wisdom will forevermore be silent, but will live on in all the lives that were touched by this man. Bruce was a mentor, leader and tremendous friend to me and will be greatly missed by all. I pray that the Lord provide comfort and love to Vicki and the family during this time and the days to come. “54” you are now truly “2-0”. May you Rest In Peace and delight in the presence of our God whom you served as His good and faithful servant.

Vicki, I was so saddened tonight when I learned about
Bruce. He and I were shipmates on the USS Sam Rayburn. We both had a love of cameras and photography and I even sold him a camera (an Argus C3) once, so I could buy a new one. Bruce was a fine friend and shipmate even though we never saw each other again after I was transferred in 1969. However, we did reconnect a few years ago through email and talked several times by phone. When we talked, it was like all those years melted away and we just picked up where we left off in 1969....the bond of shipmates is that strong. I know that his passing will leave a big hole in your life and the lives of so many others that loved him. But rest assured, we will all reunite with him one day in heaven. May God, our Heavenly Father, bless you and may the comfort of the Holy Spirit bring you peace and during this difficult time. Blessings for you and your family.

Bruce became not just a shipmate, but a friend, from our very first meeting aboard the USS Sam Rayburn, at that time, at Portsmouth, NH. He was a great mate, and helped me get acclimated aboard. We lost touch after I left the boat, but reconnected via Facebook about a year ago. Many memories and blessings! Vickie, my prayer for you is strength and comfort for all the days ahead. May God Himself lift you, and all the family up, and dry your tears. Blessings. Dennis Carey STS2 USS Sam Rayburn.
