Dorothy J. Corson

Dorothy J. Corson, age 92, of Crown Point, IN went home to be with her Lord Wednesday, September 8, 2021. Dorothy was born June 11, 1929, to the late Peter and Catherine (nee Wasylysyln) Chopiak in Union Endicott, NY. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Seward “Jack” Corson; three sons Roger (Haewon), David (Bonnie), and Mark; two daughters, Dana (William) and Diane (Peter); and six grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren. She is survived by four siblings, Martha, Samuel, Nicholas, and Gloria, and predeceased by siblings Lydia and Russell. She graduated from Vestal High School in New York. She had worked as a nurse’s aide and as an insurance representative for several organizations. Dorothy was an avid gardener. Walking through her garden, she would teach you the names of every flower, plant, bush, or tree. She would pluck spearmint and share with you as you walked. Her other hobbies were playing accordion, traveling to southern New York to visit family and, in her younger years, photography and developing her own photos. She was a member of the Oklahoma Steam Thrashing and Gas Engine Association, among many others. Dorothy always said that her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her precious jewels. To them, she gave her heart, gifts, and words. Her grandchildren said she was always kind, gentle, cheerful, fun, and gave the best foot and back rubs. Dorothy was a Sunday school teacher for decades and a member of the Heritage Baptist Church. With her as their Sunday school teacher, the children loved to sit at her feet and hear songs and stories about Jesus. Her favorite scripture verse was Philippians 4:6, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God." A public visitation for Dorothy will be held Tuesday, September 14, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 12:15 PM at Heritage Baptist Church, 9903 Merrillville Rd., Crown Point, IN 46307. A Going Home Funeral Service will begin at 12:15 PM. Pastor Scott Wilson will be officiating. Dorothy will be laid to rest right after the funeral service at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 8178 Cline Ave., (1mile south of route 30), Crown Point, IN 46307. In lieu of flowers, please direct all donations in Dorothy's name to the Heritage Baptist Church, 9903 Merrillville, Rd., Crown Point, IN 46307.
