Dorothea "Dot" M. Nieter, 93, of Fort Wayne, passed away on May 27, 2018, at Lutheran Life Villages, Pine Valley. Born on February 14, 1925, in St Joseph, Michigan, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Louis and Gertrude (Schacht) Nuechterlein. She attended Valparaiso University and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Fremont. She also volunteered at Lutheran Hospital for over 40 years and enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Coldwater Lake.
She is survived by her daughters, Cathi (Tim) Galli of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Chris (Andy) Goeglein of Angola; son, Dan (Beth) Nieter, of Wolcottville; grandchildren, Bryan (Melissa) Galli, Jason (Linsey) Galli, Stephanie (Brian) Nicholson, Grant Goeglein, Paige (Josh) Davis, Allyson (Jeff) Harbert, and Maddie Nieter; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters, Eunice Spurgat, of Oak Park, Illiniois, and Lois Hoger, of Hyde Park, New York; and brother, Rev. Louis (Gloria) Nuechterlein, of Cheshire, Connecticut. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Paul "Bud" F. Nieter, in 2013.
Funeral service is 1pm, Friday, June 1, at Lutheran Life Villages, 6723 S. Anthony Blvd, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Rev. Michael Wakeland officiating. Calling will also be held from 6 to 9pm Thursday, May 31, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd, Fort Wayne. Entombment at Concordia Cemetery Gardens. Memorial donations may be given to Lutheran Life Villages, Fort Wayne, or Peace Lutheran Church, Fremont. The family would like to thank the staff of Lutheran Life Villages for the loving care given to Dot and Bud over the past 13 years.
