Evelyn E Harges

Evelyn E Harges, 91, of Fort Wayne, passed away on January 11, 2018. Born on June 4, 1926, in Fort Wayne, she was the daughter of the late, Hugo J and Evelyn C (Korte) Knapp. She was Baptized, Confirmed, and Married at Zion Lutheran Church, then became a member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne, a past president of the Ladies Aid, directress of the Altar Guild at church, and a greeter. Her favorite bible verse was “Lo, I am with you always even to the end of the world”. Her first employment was in the office of General Electric Co, after her children were born she was employed at the YWCA, as a lifeguard and swim instructor for over 30 years, then working at the YMCAuntil the age of 85. She also helped her husband Bob, at the Liberty Press, and was a caregiver for several years. She enjoyed yard work, and swimming was her favorite sport. She married Robert O Harges, on June 26, 1948. He preceded her in death in 2000. They had three children, Russell W. (Sandra) Harges, Vida (James) Konkle, and Vicki (Gregory) Roberts; grandchildren, Jason B. (Abbey) Graf, Lindsay (nee Graf) Wells, Tricia (Brandon) Screeton, Matthew (Jamie) Roberts, and Bradford (Samantha) Roberts; great-grandchildren, Alexander, and John Riley, Brett Screeton, Jenna, Olivia, and Warner Roberts, Dylan Roberts, and Charles Graf. She dearly loved her family including, Paul and Charlotte Korte and their family, sister-in-law, Ruth (nee Harges) Taylor, nieces, Martha Dee and Becky Miller. She also loved her beloved cat, Princess. Funeral service will be 11:30am, Wednesday, January 17, at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St Joe Road, Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be held from 2-4 & 6-8pm, Tuesday, January 16, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or Visiting Nurse Hospice of Fort Wayne.
