Obituary of Mary Alice Hudak
Mary Alice Hudak (Worth), 81, of Locust Grove, VA, died April 3, 2018 in her home with her daughter by her side. Mary was born in Denver, CO November 15, 1936 to Donald and Alice Worth. She attended Consumnes River and Sacramento State Colleges in California and graduated from the University of Wyoming with a PhD in Psychology in 1980. Mary was a Professor of Psychology at Allegheny College specializing in Women’s Studies and Child Development until she retired in 1999. She was an advocate for Women’s Rights as well as a humanitarian and pacifist. She had a heart for the underprivileged and oppressed. She role modeled treating others with compassion and living a simple life not based on material wealth but solid character such as gratitude, altruism, and justice. Upon retirement she went on a mission trip to Romania to serve abandoned infants and she hand-crafted dolls delivered to orphans in Africa and Mexico. Mary was an active member of Amnesty International advocating for human rights. Mary’s hobbies included playing the piano, quilting, craft-making, gardening, and reading. She was a member of Lake of the Woods Church and enjoyed serving in the Nursery. Mary lived her life with dignity and respect for self and others and fought a courageous battle with Dementia to the end. Mary loved her children, grandchildren, and children-in-law. She is survived by her five children: Paul Hudak of TX; Debbie Jockin of Fredericksburg; Karen Hellwig of PA; Charles Hudak of NJ; and Jim Freivald of CO. She is also survived by her siblings Donald Worth of CA and Charles Worth of Puerto Rico as well as eleven grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service at 10:00 am. Interment is private.
