Maryanne Lee Smith

Maryanne Lee Smith, age, 76, passed away July 15, 2021. Maryanne was born October 3, 1944, six minutes after her twin sister, Joanne in Ypsilanti, MI to Dorothy and Clifford Sanders. She was united in marriage to Anthony (Tony) Smith on May 3, 1965. She worked at the phone company, then later as a ward clerk for Garden City Hospital. Maryanne always had a dream of becoming a nurse, and after taking courses at Baker Community College, she obtained her LPN license, and was employed by McPherson Hospital in Howell, MI until 1982. After a car accident in 1982 ended her nursing career, Maryanne was able to teach herself to do many types of crafting. She was an avid crocheter, and after moving to Florida in the 1990’s, volunteered at a local hospital in Tampa, where she donated many baby blankets that she had made to the nursery. Besides doing her crafts, and maintaining her dedication to care for others, she and Tony joined the local Lions Club where she served in various officer positions, including President. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Anthony Smith; son, Anthony Smith II (Robin); daughter, Tina Ozanich (Greg); brother, Ronald Sanders; sister, Lois Maass; and grandchildren, Anthony Smith III, Dean Smith, Ashleigh Hansen, Lucas Hansen, and numerous nieces and nephews. Maryanne was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and Dorothy Sanders, stepmother, Maureen Sanders; sister, Joanne Maass, her sister-in-law, Christine Sanders, and her brother-in-law, Bob Maass. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local Lions Club or Nursing School. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Mullins and Thompson Funeral Service, Fredericksburg Chapel. A visitation will be held an hour prior.
