Jeanne H. Bellish

Jeanne (Hudson) Bellish, 93, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully Monday, July 12, 2021. She was born October 27, 1927 in Knoxville, Iowa to the late Brownie C. and Inez (Rietveld) Hudson. She was a graduate of Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, August 1950 with a Bachelor Degree in Home Economics. While at Iowa State, she became a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority where she was chapter president and acquired her lifelong leadership skills. Her Kappa connection forged enduring friendships that remained a priority throughout her life. After graduating from Iowa State and through a Kappa alumnae connection, Jeanne was asked to become a head resident at Duhme Hall, an all-women’s residence hall at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. This is where she met her husband, Art Bellish and they were married on August 21, 1951 in Knoxville, Iowa. They were married for 53 years until Art passed away in March 2005. Jeanne was a full-time homemaker and community volunteer. Among the volunteer organizations that she joined were St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild, Indianapolis Alumnae Association of Kappa Kappa Gamma, Easterseals Crossroads Hospital Guild and P.E.O., Chapter BC., all of which she served as president. She was a member of Northminster Presbyterian Church and Valley Presbyterian Church, Paradise Valley, Arizona. Jeanne will be remembered for her love of family, her strong faith, her generosity and willingness to help others, her long-term friendships and her championship Rummikub skills. She was an example of a life well-lived. Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Jeanne (James) Gibson, grandsons, Daniel Hudson Bellish and Joseph Parker Bellish; daughter-in-law, Jerrie Jones Bellish and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Daniel Bellish in 2005; son, Timothy Hudson Bellish in 2016; sister, Helen Marie Boyt; and brothers, John B. Hudson and Richard Lee Hudson. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, with visitation at the funeral home from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.
