James Woodrow Turner

James Woodrow Turner, 79, of Martinsville, died peacefully in his home on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Jimmy was born in Collinsville, VA on August 29, 1939 to Woodrow Amos Turner and Virginia Lee McCrickard Turner, both deceased. He was a 1957 graduate of Fieldale High School, the National Business College and retired from E. I. Du Pont de Nemours. Jimmy was a loving husband, father, coach and friend, who touched the lives of many.

He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Walker Turner; a daughter, Catherine Turner; two sons, David Turner (Tracy) and Michael Turner (Debbie); three granddaughters, Lauren Harrell, Brittany Turner and Kristen Turner; and three grandsons, Sage Turner, Hutch Turner and Jack Turner.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, January 24, 2019, at First Baptist Church of Martinsville with the Rev. Dr. Dennis Knight officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 730 E. Church Street, Martinsville, VA 24112.

LORD, HEAVENLY FATHER, thank YOU for gifting us with the beautiful life of Mr. Turner. What a blessing he was to so many. I come to YOU asking for YOUR peace to surround this family in their time of need through the celebration and grieving times ahead. Provide them YOUR strength in the days ahead. The thing I remember most about Jimmy is that he was Always There. Every gathering, he was there, supporting his wife and carrying all the food, smiling as he watched the kids play, and just soaking it in. The man lived his family, and just being with them brought him such obvious joy. I'll miss that smile. Love to the whole Turner family!
