Obituary of Leo F. Stocker
Leo F. Stocker, 72, died Thursday, October 18th, 2012 at the River West Health Campus in Evansville following a brief illness. At the end he was, as always, surrounded by loving family and friends. Leo was born to the late Godfrey and Bernadine (Greubel) Stocker, and spent his younger years playing high school football and working in his father’s local grocery store. After graduating from Memorial High School in 1958, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Leo and his family attended St. John the Baptist Catholic Church after moving to Newburgh. He worked for Alcoa and retired after more than 30 years with the company. Leo set the bar high when it came to being a loving and proud grandfather. He enjoyed attending the sporting events, performances and activities of his grandchildren. He never missed a game. His children and grandchildren were the love of his life. With a contagious laugh, Leo lived every day to its fullest. He filled his days with fishing, playing softball for the Knights of Columbus, and golfing. He was an avid follower of Indiana Basketball, Notre Dame football, the Colts, and Memorial High School sports. Traveling and gambling with his life-long friends was something he looked forward to each year. During his retirement, Leo spent a lot of his time at the American Legion (Kapperman Post 44 in Newburgh) telling stories and making friends. He served on the honor guard with a dedicated team of veterans for 10 years. He was very proud of his country. He leaves his daughter, Sheryl Stocker-Brothers and her husband, Drexel Brothers, Jr.; his son, Jeff Stocker and his wife, Mary Spyropoulos; his sister, Jackie Pender and her husband, Jim Pender, his brother-in-law, Don Wedding; his brother, Tom Stocker; five grandchildren – Andrea Brothers, Alyssa Brothers, Alex Stocker, Drew Brothers and Cody Stocker; dozens of nieces and nephews and many close friends. He is preceded in death by his sister, Patricia Wedding. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, October 22, 2012, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 625 Frame Road, Newburgh, IN, officiated by Father Thomas Kessler, with entombment at St. Joseph Cemetery in Evansville. Military Honors will be performed at the cemetery by American Legion Kapperman Post 44. Friends may visit Sunday, 2 PM until 7 PM at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261, Newburgh, IN.
