Obituary of Wretha Carlisle Tate
TATE, Wretha Carlisle, 99, of Varina, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2019. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John M. Tate Jr.; her son, Godfrey W. Childress; and Frederick Ray Spicer, who was like a son. She is survived by her three daughters, Dale Dixon (Ron), Gail Gathright (Ronnie) and Debra Roth (Greg); nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, with a fourth on the way, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Wretha was a lifelong member of Laurel Hill United Methodist Church in Varina, where she attended the Amen Sunday School Class. In 1985, she retired from Munford Refrigeration as their office manager. Although Wretha loved her job, she felt her best years were those spent raising her four children, as well as others who weren’t her own. Her doors were always open. She will be remembered as a guiding light for her family and all those who knew and loved her. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, Va. 23231. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, at Laurel Hill United Methodist Church, 1919 New Market Road, Richmond, Va. 23231. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
