Donald Earl Hanna

Donald “Don” Earl Hanna, 81, of Bloomington passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. Don was born December 27, 1931 as the son of Verne and Delphia (Ison) Hanna. Don was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an educator and served as a military policeman for the U.S. Army. As a graduate of Ellettsville High School and Indiana University, he was a proud Golden Eagle and Hoosier. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, the American Legion and the Masonic Temple and was one of the original members of St. Marks United Methodist Church in Bloomington. Known for his competitive spirit, Don enjoyed coaching little league and was an avid sports fan, especially for the IU Hoosiers and Chicago Cubs. His passions included golfing, playing bridge and family vacations. Survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carol Hanna as well as four children and many grandchildren. His children include: Marc and Ruth Hanna, Tya Hanna, Greg Hanna and Brad and Tami Hanna, all living in Bloomington. His grandchildren include: Justin and Lia Millard, Mollie and Anthony DelVecchio, Laryn and Colin Clark, Allyson Pfrommer, Alexandria Hanna, Kyle Hanna, Matthew Hanna and Kelsey Pfrommer. His great-grandchildren include: Oliver and Wesley Millard and Finn Clark. Also survived by his siblings: Norma Stevens, Albert and Catherine Hanna, William and Wilma Hanna, Warren and Sue Hanna. Preceded in death by his parents, sister: Helen Carpenter, and brothers: Gene Hanna and Paul Hanna. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Both will be held at St. Marks United Methodist Church, 100 Indiana 46, Bloomington, IN 47408. Following the service, everyone is invited to a reception with the family in the fellowship hall. Private family entombment in Valhalla Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church Loaves and Fishes Fund in Don's name or to a charity of choice.
