Our beautiful Bellaire funeral home

Levy Funeral HomeFor decades, we have served families in Bellaire and surrounding neighborhoods. In 2017, we opened in a new building on Bissonnet Street designed with warmth, comfort and convenience in mind. Our funeral home team is knowledgeable and ready to work with you one on one to ensure all of your wishes and needs are met.

Jewish funerals and more

As a Jewish funeral provider, Levy Funeral Directors understands the customs and religious significance associated with Jewish funeral tradition. Whether you are Orthodox, Conservative or Reform, our funeral directors honor the traditions that are important to you.

From the minute you walk into our funeral home, you will feel supported. Our kind team is here to help you. From big-picture planning during the arrangement meeting to ensuring the inclusion of the details of Jewish tradition—such as ribbons for ripping and dirt from Israel for burial—no element will ever go overlooked.

Our building also has an area where we perform the tahara bathing ritual. There is also a shomer dormitory for those who wish to watch over the body.

Our funeral professionals can also assist with services and burial in Israel.

Though Levy Funeral Directors has a longstanding tradition of Jewish funerals, we serve people from all faiths and backgrounds. We can hold a funeral in our own chapel, at your church or at another venue. It's entirely up to you.

If a cremation is something you are considering, we can coordinate that as well.

Affordable care when you need it

Levy Funeral HomeOur founder worked hard to ensure that no family was ever denied a proper funeral service, no matter their financial situation. To this day, we honor the mindset that the true value of service is measured to the degree by which it fulfills others. Many people choose Levy Funeral Directors for its affordability. We take your budget and financial situation into consideration always.

And we are here for you whenever you need us—only a phone call away.

History

With more than 80 years of history, Levy Funeral Directors is a Houston institution.

In 1938, Edward J. Levy opened a funeral home that he hoped would honor the traditions and preferences of people in the Bellaire community. Edward seemed uniquely drawn to his profession. His wife recalled stories she heard about his childhood, including the fact while Edward was growing up, he told his parents he wanted to be a mortician.

Edward was originally from Marlin, Texas. He moved to Houston in 1927. Prior to moving to Houston, his father, Sam Levy, ran a hot springs spa called the Marlin Bath House. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, Edward lived in Ohio, graduating from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Sciences in 1932.

After moving back to Houston and working at 2 other funeral homes, he opened Levy Funeral Directors. The original building was in the Riverside area.

Edward had a long career in the funeral business and become an honorary president and board member of the Jewish Funeral Directors of America.

Tradition of compassion

Edward believed in deeply understanding of the needs and concerns of his community. This belief permeates Levy Funeral Directors and compels us to provide a high level of compassionate care.

Please know that you can always call on us. We are here 24/7 to help you explore your options, always with sensitivity and concern.

Community involvement

Levy Funeral HomeLevy Funeral Directors is always looking to make a positive contribution in the community. In addition to working with Bellaire and Houston families through our funeral services, we support various community entities, charitable causes and religious organizations.

We regularly donate to the Jewish Community Center and assist with its community events, including the music and arts event and Houston Chili Cookoff. Levy Funeral Directors has raised money for Congregation Beth Yeshurun.

We also visit local nursing homes to help the elderly. On Fridays, we deliver challah bread to nursing homes that have Jewish residents, such as Bayou Manor and Brookdale Galleria. Additionally, many of our associates volunteer their spare time to taking senior citizens to run errands.

In addition to our support of community events, we stay involved through educational initiatives and programs. We sponsor a scholarship awarded to a student every year at The Emery/Weiner School and have also sponsored many exhibits at the Holocaust Museum Houston throughout the year.

It is our continued hope that Levy Funeral Directors supports the community through active involvement for generations to come. If you have an organization or cause that you believe we can help, please let us know.
