About

Mount Rose Cemetery has served families in York, Pennsylvania, since 1886. Located on gentle slopes that once formed part of William Penn's Springettsbury manor, the memorial park reflects the same serene beauty today that was admired by the early settlers of York more than 2 centuries ago.

Beautifully landscaped cemetery grounds

Bronze and granite flat marker in a private garden of hydrangeas.Mount Rose Cemetery is under the constant attention of skillful landscape artists. There are thousands of evergreen plants, including arborvitae, Austrian pine, Scotch pine, Douglas fir, Blue spruce, yews, and boxwood. Trees such as pin oaks, forsythias, double blossom Japanese cherry trees, blossoming crabapple trees, azaleas, and spiraeas dot the 100-acre tract, warmed by beds of roses, marigolds and various other colorful annuals.

Wide range of burial and cremation options

Garden of the Cross offers traditional in-ground burial. Lawn crypts provide the dignity of traditional burial along with the advantages of crypt burial. In addition to the Chapel of Memories, one of the few aboveground columbaria in the York area, the cemetery is also home to a large garden mausoleum and the historic Keystone Chapel Mausoleum. This stately granite building was built in the 1930s and holds more than 500 crypts. Elegant stained-glass windows accent a white marble interior. Glass-front niches were recently added to the mausoleum, allowing new families to remember their loved ones with displays of urns, photos and more.

History

Mount Rose Cemetery's history began in 1886, when the Green Hill Evangelical Association held a "Sunday school and prayer meeting" in a carpenter shop on the Green Hill property of Michael Shellenberger. A year later, Michael died and his heirs deeded a portion of his land for a church and cemetery, which eventually became Mount Rose Cemetery.

For more than a century, Mount Rose Cemetery has maintained the principle of stewardship on which it was established, while responding to the evolving needs of the diverse York County community. Our long history of esteemed service earned Mount Rose Cemetery the reputation as "York’s most prestigious cemetery." We work tirelessly to uphold that sentiment, and with 20 of 100 acres still undeveloped we will serve the community for generations to come.
