About

Lincoln Cemetery has provided cemetery services for the Chicagoland area since 1911. For more than a century, our commitment to outstanding service has remained unchanged, while our cemetery has responded to the evolving needs of the community.

Diverse burial options

Located on approximately 112 acres on 3 corners of 12300 S. Kedzie Avenue, Lincoln Cemetery is a well-kept cemetery property with a range of burial choices. Whether your preference is interment, entombment or inurnment, we have an option that reflects your family’s culture, traditions and budget.

Our cemetery houses areas that accommodate flat grave markers, separate upright monuments as well as spaces with a mix. We have mausoleum and cremation options, including crystal-front niches that are customizable with personal mementos celebrating the life lived.

Distinguished veterans cemetery

Veterans sections at Lincoln CemeteryAt Lincoln Cemetery, we are particularly proud of our veterans cemetery developed to honor the men and women who have protected and served our country. Its features include a dedicated statue and a Veteran’s Walk of Remembrance comprised of bricks brought to memorialize families' soldiers. Our salute to veterans also includes a commemorative vault directly linked to the Dignity Memorial® Vietnam Wall. After hosting the wall in 1999, we gathered the memorabilia left behind by visitors and placed it in a vault and buried it with a descriptive marker for future visitors to see. Each Memorial Day, we host a special veterans memorial service.

Across from the veterans section, our 9/11 memorial depicts an image of the twin towers, 3 airplanes and the Pentagon. The inscription reads, “September 11, 2001. We Will Never Forget.”

History

In 1911, a group of African American funeral directors approached Raymond Olson, the owner of Chicago's Oak Hill Cemetery, and proposed that a portion of the undeveloped land that he owned open as an African-American cemetery. Raymond agreed, and Lincoln Cemetery opened. Its first burial took place in April 1911.

In the 100-plus years since, Lincoln Cemetery has served thousands of families, some of them well known.
