You have choices with funeral and memorial services

Chapel at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral HomeWith a simple conversation, you can provide the inspiration—maybe your loved one's favorite song or vacation destination—and we will work to weave those personalized elements with tastefulness and grace into the memorial service.

Whether you imagine a luxurious black tie evening affair for the person who lived for elegant dinner parties, or a baseball-themed tribute with keepsake miniature bats for guests to remember the world’s biggest fan, our funeral home team excels at discovering what mattered most in life and shining a spotlight on those special things to fulfill almost any final wish.

Our interfaith chapel warmly welcomes people from all backgrounds and traditions. Religious ceremonies and funerals with military honors mark 2 classic choices that are available at our funeral home. For those who want, we offer cremation and can help explain the entire cremation process, including memorial service options.

Whatever you ultimately choose, you can rely on us to handle all the details from music selections to floral arrangements, so you can focus your energy on family and friends. We work with a number of 3rd-party caterers to arrange custom menus featuring local favorites, or even your family’s own secret recipes, served in our flexible reception space that adapts to accommodate large reunions or small family gatherings.

We're here for you

We consider it an honor to assist with your funeral planning needs. Please contact us, day or night, if we may help coordinate funeral arrangements in Liberty, or if you would simply like a tour of our lovely chapel.

History

Foyer at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral HomeJohn L. Showalter, a Connersville native and graduate of Indiana College of Mortuary Science, was anxious to own a funeral home. In 1968, he and his wife, the former Judith Holtel, purchased the Baker Funeral Home with locations in College Corner and Liberty, and later the Fosdick Funeral Home in Liberty. In 1978, they formed Showalter-Blackwell Funeral Chapels with his long-time friend and associate J. Michael Blackwell and his wife, the former Sandy Howe of Connersville. They purchased Myers Funeral Home in April 1978.

One year later, Joel D. Long, originally from the Orange community in Fayette County, moved back to Connersville with his wife, the former Vickie Brockman, to take a position as a licensed funeral director. In 1998, the funeral home recognized Long's commitment to the business and the community, changing the name to Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home.

Today, Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home is a member of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers, offering exclusive benefits and amenities as well as compassionate care and personalized service.
