The Claude R. BoydSpencer Funeral Home has been part of the Babylon, New York, community since 1934. Our commitment today is the same as the day that Claude Boyd opened the funeral home: to provide compassionate care that focuses on and meets the needs of a family. We understand that losing a loved one is a difficult emotional experience, and all of our services are designed to help you through one of the more personal and challenging stages of life.

Truly personalized funerals and memorials

From our beautiful West Main Street funeral home, we take care of you, focusing on your family and the life being celebrated. The Claude R. Boyd–Spencer Funeral Home team specializes in personalization, taking time to get to know your loved one, discovering what made that person tick and creating a memorable memorial or funeral service that truly reflects the life lived.

How does that play out?

Whether you are seeking a simple cremation service; a full traditional funeral with a graveside memorial and cemetery burial; or a modern celebration with a band and a send-off that reflects the passions of your loved one, we go the extra mile to make it happen—and we do it with a level of care and compassion that's uncommon in this world.

Want a dove release? You got it. A motorcycle processional? A funeral canoe instead of a casket? A veterans service with full military honors? Yes, yes, and yes. If you can imagine it, we can do it. We also have ideas that may not have occurred to you.

Our team of experienced, compassionate professionals listens to what you say and executes every detail with exquisite care. From creating a multimedia presentation celebrating a life to arranging for a person’s favorite flowers to hiring musicians, we have the knowledge and resources to fully personalize a funeral or memorial service and help ensure an enduring legacy.

The size of the building, its stately facade and the manicured grounds inspire warm feelings.

The lobby’s indoor pond is a conversation starter, and the light-filled chapel seats up to 100 and overlooks the lake. We have plenty of quiet spaces to sit and talk with friends and 3 visitation rooms also filled with natural daylight.

Front Exterior at Claude R. Boyd–Spencer Funeral HomeIn 1934, Claude Boyd founded what is now Claude R. Boyd–Spencer Funeral Home, in Babylon Village, New York. It was located in a storefront on East Main Street, in the heart of the village. It wasn’t a large place—at the time, most families held funerals for their loves ones at their personal homes.

As Babylon Village grew, however, and funeral trends evolved, Claude R. Boyd–Spencer Funeral Home needed a larger building, so Claude acquired a magnificent lakeside estate on West Main Street in 1954. He turned what was a private home on about 7 acres into the area’s premier provider of funeral, cremation and cemetery services.

A little more than 10 years later, he found that the business needed still more space, and he added onto the house in 1965. Today, the original part of the house serves as the funeral home lobby and offices; the addition holds visitation rooms, family rooms and one of the larger chapels on Long Island. Our meticulously manicured grounds and warm, bright funeral home are beautiful places to celebrate life.

The funeral home team is committed to carrying on the vision of our founder and the legacy of care and compassion that is the very foundation of our mission.

"Please feel free to use anything that I have already written if you feel my words might be beneficial to other families. There is so much about this experience that was not like the usual wake or funeral. A celebration of this man's life and what he contributed to this world. He was a husband, a father, a brother, a son, a friend, a co-worker, and a football coach. That is what you helped us celebrate with all of his loved ones. We wore jeans and football jerseys, or whatever you felt comfortable in because that was what he liked. Hated wearing a suit and tie so we didn't put him in one. You helped us achieve this unique service for this unique man, without feeling judged because we wanted to do something a little different. Matter of fact, you encouraged it. Even the flowers were different. Instead of having a big red heart with roses that, just the thought of it, made me sad. You helped me find something more appropriate for me, a large Cowboys football arrangement (Cowboys was the kids team he coached for many years). There were hundreds of pictures, story boards that my daughter prepared, that you so beautifully displayed. There was a continuous video playing of even more pictures that you arranged so beautifully. My daughter was very comforted when she heard people laughing, smiling, and crying but telling wonderful stories about her Dad. You all did that for us. You created an atmosphere that encouraged talking about good and funny memories as well as, the accomplishments that her father had made. Of course there is much sadness as well but with your help, we able to make it about my husband and his life and how lucky we all were to be a part of it. The pictures and the video were particularly helpful to our little 9 year old nephew that was having such a hard time understanding what had happened to his uncle. They helped him so much that he asked me for a particular picture of his Dad, (my brother), me, and his uncle so that he knows that his uncle is always with him. Funerals, services, or memorials are such a personal thing. You and your amazing, caring, and comforting staff made this very difficult time our own and something that none of us will ever forget. Thank you all."
