History

Stowers Funeral HomeJames H. Brandon was the son of John and Martha Brandon, who were actually the founders of Brandon, Florida. In 1876, James built a large 2-story home. His wife, Johanna, and their 7 children loved entertaining guests in their Folk Victorian southern mansion.

In 1901, William and Doc Estelle Brandon Varnedoe purchased the home. Edward Linsley bought it around 1912. From 1946 to 1955, his daughter’s family, the Walter Claytons, lived in it. In 1960, with financial backing from John "Rudy" Williams, Dick Stowers’s dream commenced when they purchased and converted the building into a funeral home. Mr. Stowers operated the Stowers Funeral home until he retired in the late 90s.

The Brandon Homestead is a central image in the town of Brandon. The facade and basic floor plan of the original L-shaped house is still preserved after nearly 150 years. As Stowers Funeral Home, we continue to welcome generations of local families during their most difficult times.
