    James M. Hammer is a licensed funeral director and manager at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes. He has been a member of the group's care team since he was an adolescent, beginning his tenure with the company as a porter and door attendant. In 2013, he finally took the next step by changing careers and continuing in the footsteps of many family members who have brought dignity and honor to this profession for over 4 generations by becoming a funeral director. He describes his decision to become a funeral director as inescapable. "It’s in my blood."

    Prior to graduating top of his class from American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service, he spent much of his time in the classroom as a teacher. Having earned a master’s degree in education, he continued his educator role as an on-campus instructor of microbiology at his alma mater for several years before moving to the next level in his career. In addition to his roles in funeral service and education, James has even had several minor roles in theater and film.

    James is from Port Jefferson Station, New York, and when all is said and done, being a family man and serving his community is what means most to him. He is a long-time member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Port Jefferson, where he is past chairperson of the standing committee & grievances and past division historian. James is also an active member of the Port Jefferson Lions Club International. On his days off, he stays active physically and mentally by playing ice hockey, golf and writing creatively.

    James is a unique member of the Dignity Memorial team. His devotion, compassion and undeniable zeal allows him to create personalized celebrations of life. These drives also uphold his distinguished reputation as a funeral practitioner, remaining faithful to the families who place their trust in him.
