Since longtime Courtice funeral directors, Ronald Raaphorst and John Town, opened Courtice Funeral Chapel in 2001, we have helped families in the Durham region deal with their losses with compassion.

Our funeral home

Sitting area at Courtice Funeral ChapelOur beautiful brick funeral home sits on lush manicured grounds on Highway 2, near the Courtice/Oshawa border, close to a number of cemeteries and churches. With large visitation rooms, a chapel that seats more than 200 guests and a spacious reception centre for post-funeral gatherings, our facilities are comfortable for families of all faiths. Large windows let in lots of natural light and interiors with warm colours and fireplaces create a homey atmosphere. Our parking lot is easily and safely accessed from the highway, and we have a covered pick-up/drop-off area at the main doors.

Our caring team

The friendly, caring staff at Courtice Funeral Chapel puts your needs first. Most of our staff have worked in the Courtice/Oshawa/Bowmanville area their whole careers and consider themselves your friends. They, along with our management team, believe deeply in community service. They coach local sports teams, sing at retirement and nursing homes as part of the Oshawa Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, and are members of the Kiwanis and Rotary clubs.

Courtice Funeral Chapel also sponsors several charities as a company, including the Heart & Stroke Foundation and Diabetes Foundation. We are also committed to helping Courtice area churches raise money and attend many church dinners and social events as a group.

Unique and memorable funeral services

Reception room at Courtice Funeral ChapelOur goal is always to provide meaningful and lasting memories in a professional and personal way. What does that mean for you? Perhaps you want a traditional funeral at a nearby church followed by a cemetery burial. Or maybe it's a no-holds-barred celebration of life, complete with live music, catering and a roof-raising send-off that reflects the personality and passions of yourself or your loved one.

Either way—or anywhere in between—we make the occasion special. From bagpipes to cupcakes, puppies to putters, bird-shaped urns to blue marble monuments, we take the things that mattered to someone and bring them together to create a singular, heartfelt memorial.

Continued care

What's more, our compassion doesn't end after the funeral does. Our funeral home has a dedicated family service counsellor who specializes in grief support, and you have access to our 24-hour Compassion Helpline®. Please call us for immediate assistance planning a funeral or information about planning ahead.

A trusted funeral home

As a member of the Dignity Memorial® network, Courtice Funeral Chapel gives you not only the warm, familiar attention you expect from a locally operated funeral home but also the value you deserve by way of the largest network of funeral, cremation and cemetery providers in North America.

Ratings & Reviews

Verified Customer Reviews

Since 2005, many of our customers have taken the time to tell us how we did each year via our Voice of the Customer program. Our star ratings and comments from families come directly from these surveys.

"After the mass was completed, James and Taylor ask my mom and myself if there is anywhere we would like to go for the last time with my papa. We asked if we could take a drive by our house where he had lived for his last two months and also passed. When we came to our house James and Taylor stopped the car, got out and placed a rose on our front porch. Our whole family burst into tears, it was so touching... And we will never forget that. Thank you all so much for everything you did for my family, I can't say it enough. Outstanding work. Whenever it comes the time to make arrangements for myself, I will be doing it with the Dignity family. They are the most professional, compassionate and good hearted people I've ever met. You ALL are in the right field, never change."
