Lobby at Clore-English Funeral HomeThe story of Clore-English Funeral Home began when J. Carlton "Zeus" Clore moved from Madison, Virginia, and opened the funeral home in the 1940s in downtown Culpeper. After outgrowing the downtown location and merging with Geest Funeral Home, the 2 funeral homes combined names to become Clore-Geest Funeral Home in the mid-90s. In 1996, they built a state-of-the-art, modern facility at its current location on 29 South.

How the funeral home got its current name

Our name was changed in 1998 to Clore-English Funeral Home to recognize the retirement of the Geest family, to honor Mr. Clore’s name and to add the name of A. Wayne English, who had worked for and learned from Mr. Clore since 1974.
