    Douglas was born and raised in Ohio and graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1986 before moving to Dayton. Doug then joined our funeral home, where he has been serving our community since 1988. He became a manager in 2001 and enjoys supporting his staff to help members of the community in their time of need. Doug married his wife in 2015 and enjoys playing golf and working around the house.

    Since 1998 Mark has provided compassionate care to families in the greater Dayton area. Mark earned his degree in mortuary science from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1975. He is proud to be a part of the Dignity Memorial® team, guiding you through one of the most personal times in life.

  • Steven J Tobias

    Funeral Director

    Steve is a second-generation funeral director who is honored and privileged to serve the families of Dayton and surrounding communities for over three decades. Steve was born and raised in the Dayton/Kettering area and currently resides in Bellbrook, Ohio. Beginning his studies at Ohio State University, he graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1979.

    Steve enjoys giving back to his community and is a member of the Bellbrook Lions Club, served as a paramedic and firefighter with the Sugarcreek-Bellbrook Fire Department for 18 years and currently is an active volunteer with the Victoria Performing Arts. He serves with the old adage in mind: People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.

    Steve enjoys spending time with his family, especially his four grandchildren.

  • James G Turpen

    Funeral Director

    James has been serving families of Dayton, Ohio, since 1966 and at Tobias Funeral Home since 1989. He spent four years at Miami University studying adult trainable and adolescent behavior issues and graduated cum laud from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1966. James is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, the Ohio Funeral Directors and Embalmers associations and the Greater Montgomery County Funeral Directors Association. He is also involved with the Victoria Theater Association.

  • Andrew L Vanderhorst

    Funeral Director

    Andrew, also known as Skip, is a lifelong resident of Beavercreek and graduated from Beavercreek High School in 1974. A 1981 graduate of Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science as a funeral director and embalmer, he began working at our funeral home in July 1980.

    Skip is a member of Beavercreek Lodge #753 and a 33rd degree member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton.

    Skip and his wife have 1 daughter and are active members of St. Helen Parish. They enjoy spending their free time with family and friends.

  • Dan K Tobias


    Dan has been a licensed funeral director and embalmer for over 41 years. His passion has always been helping family members through difficult times. He has 2 brothers, Dick and Dave, and their parents, La Mar and Norma founded our funeral home in 1941. Dan is a veteran, having served 4 years in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1966 to 1970. He also served as president of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association in 2003 and President Rotary Club of Beavercreek in 2010. He continues to pursue a passion for funeral service every day as a full-time consultant. Dan is married to Mary Beth and has 3 adult children Scott, Ryan and Stacy, who is also a licensed funeral director and embalmer.

  • Erika Dale Baker


    Erika moved to the Dayton area from Pittsburgh in 2006 after graduation to complete her apprenticeship at our funeral home. Afterward, she stayed on as a licensed funeral director.

    Erika lives in Springboro with her husband, who is also a funeral director, and their 2 dogs and cat. She enjoys trying new restaurants in Dayton and Cincinnati and is involved at a local gym.

  • Jon B Deitloff

    Funeral Director

    Jon is a graduate of the Mortuary Science Department at San Antonio College and received the designation of certified funeral service practitioner in 2003. He has been a licensed funeral director since 1987 but his informal training began earlier in his father’s funeral home in Nebraska.

    Jon served as president of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association in 2007 and on the board of directors at Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science from 2003 to 2014, serving the last four years as president. Jon has also served on several other area boards and organizations. He has two adult sons and enjoys travel, reading and live music.
