A funeral home for all people
Hampton is one of the most diverse cities in the Commonwealth of Virginia. People who live here come from all walks of life. At Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, we embrace families of all cultures, faiths and backgrounds. Our team members are familiar with many different funeral customs and rites and are bilingual to better serve our Spanish-speaking families. We are also the funeral home of choice for Muslim families from Newport News, Hampton and the surrounding areas.
Let’s start with a story
Every person’s life has a story. At Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, we are storytellers. Let us help you tell your or your loved one’s life story like no one else can. With our Life Well Celebrated® service, we create one-of-a-kind tributes that celebrate a loved one’s passions, interests and hobbies.
Was grandfather an avid angler? Our team can create a fishing-themed celebration with his prized fishing pole on display, a video slideshow of his best catches and a catered seafood dinner. Did mom love to boogie on the dance floor? We can throw a dance party with a DJ spinning her favorite tunes.
There are thousands of ways to celebrate a life. All we ask is for you to provide the inspiration—we’ll take care of all the details.
Modern and versatile event spaces
Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home is designed with comfort and warmth in mind. When you walk through the double doors of the entrance, you’re greeted with an inviting fireplace in the lobby. To the right is our main chapel, which has plenty of seating in traditional fixed wooden pews. The space is simply decorated with a few indoor trees and elegant chandelier lighting. The video and sound technology is modern and updated, with 2 retractable projection screens at the front of the room for showing video tributes.
We also have a lovely Celebration Room that offers flexible seating arrangements with round tables or living room-style furniture. This room is also decorated simply and tastefully to encourage personalization of the space with mementos, photographs and themed decor. This space is ideal for Life Well Celebrated events, and catered receptions can be anything from a continental breakfast buffet to a formal dinner.
Of course, if you need a smaller space, we have several rooms for more intimate gatherings.

Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home dates back to 1909, when Lawrence B. Wood and his wife, Margaret Patrick Wood, opened Lawrence B. Wood Funeral Home on Victoria Boulevard in the downtown area of Hampton. Over the years, the funeral home business grew to meet the needs and requests of the surrounding Tidewater communities.
In 2000, the funeral home relocated to the grounds of Parklawn Memorial Park on North Armistead Avenue and changed its name to Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home.
Parklawn Memorial Park
Parklawn Memorial Park is a beautiful cemetery. With rolling hills, beautiful wildlife, magnificent statuary and a lovely lake, our cemetery instills a sense of peace, calm and serenity to the Tidewater families we serve. Thanks to our beautiful gardens (one of our loveliest ones overlooks the lake and has views of the horse stables), numerous burial options and caring team members, our cemetery property is truly a respectable and dignified final resting place.
Burial choices for every family
Every person has unique burial needs, and Parklawn Memorial Park offers a wide variety of burial, entombment and cremation memorialization options in our gorgeous gardens. We offer property for traditional ground burial, lawn crypts and private estates. We also have beautiful mausoleums for above-ground burial and cremation niche placement. Additional cremation memorialization options include cremation benches and columbaria.
Though Parklawn Memorial Park is a non-denominational cemetery and serves families of all faiths, backgrounds and cultures, we have a designated burial area in the cemetery tied to the Hampton Roads Chapter of the Muslim Community Association. Our team works closely with the Mosque and Islamic Center of Hampton Roads to ensure all Muslim burials adhere to traditional ideals.
Contemporary and filled with natural light, Mausoleum Chapel is one of our most beautiful final resting places at Parklawn Memorial Park. The mausoleum has granite-front crypts as well as 3 library extensions containing glass-front niches that can be personalized with flowers, mementos and urns. There is also a non-denominational chapel with seating for 50 guests and a floor-to-ceiling stained-glass window that streams in sunlight during the day. The cemetery team is happy to work with Parklawn-Woods Funeral Home or the funeral home of your choice to coordinate a committal service in the chapel.
Decades of service
Parklawn Memorial Park opened in 1957 on the corner of North Armistead Avenue and Hampton Roads Center Parkway and has provided cemetery services for Peninsula families for more than 60 years. The cemetery has plenty of room for growth and development and stands ready to serve many generations to come.
We invite you to tour the cemetery property anytime. Call us at 757-838-2068 to set up a guided tour.
We Honor Veterans
At Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, we understand the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families. As a Level Four Founding Community Partner with We Honor Veterans, we are honored to serve our nation’s heroes and take this responsibility seriously. We have taken steps to ensure our staff is knowledgeable of all the benefits available to military veterans and their families.
In addition, we host community events annually in honor of our veterans and work closely with local veterans organizations. With respect, integrity and dignity, we will walk you through the steps of creating a veteran’s memorial service that truly honors the life and sacrifice of your loved one.
Hampton and the surrounding Virginia Peninsula area has a vast military population, and Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home and Parklawn Memorial Park are honored to serve veterans and members of the military. The funeral home and cemetery serve all branches of the military and work closely with Langley Air Force Base, the Naval Weapons Station in Yorktown, Portsmouth Naval Station, Fort Eustis, the Yorktown Coast Guard station and all of the military bases in the Tidewater region.
Every Memorial Day, the teams at the cemetery and funeral home host a memorial tribute to veterans. There is a cookout, American flags are handed out to visitors and they assist attendees with locating the gravesites of veterans.
In September 2017, Parklawn Memorial Park hosted a traveling exhibit called “Remembering Our Fallen.” The memorial displays photos of those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the war on terrorism. The moving exhibit served as an important reminder that brave men and women fight to defend our freedom every day.
Involved in the Hamptons community
The teams at Parklawn and Parklawn-Wood are active in the Hampton area and surrounding Peninsula communities. Throughout the year, we host events that all members of the community are invited to attend.
On Mother’s Day, we host a celebration honoring all the mothers who are buried in the cemetery. Our associates pass out flowers to attendees and help them locate their loved ones’ graves. During the holiday season, we participate in the annual Hampton Holly Days parade.
We also contribute to area civic organizations and police departments.
