In 1948, Larry J. Melcher established his funeral home, Larry J. Melcher Mortuary, with a desire to serve the Mesa, Arizona community. In 1972, Larry and his son, Larry C. (Skip) Melcher, opened a new location in East Mesa known as Larry C. Melcher Mortuary. Each funeral home operated independently until the death of Larry J. Melcher. At that time, Skip and his wife Mary took over the responsibility of both locations and renamed them Melcher Mortuaries. A crematory was added to Melcher Mortuary Mission Chapel, to provide additional service options. In 1995, the Melcher family constructed a state-of-the-art building on the same property.

"I have already made arrangements. Thank you."
"It took way too long to have my mother cremated and get the death certificates. This was very stressful, I think timeliness depended on how much you were paying."
