Guidance at every step
Let’s start with a story. Tell us about the hobbies, passions and pursuits that define a lifetime, and we will craft a ceremony that reflects life’s most magnificent moments. Imagine an aviation-themed service for the pilot who spent her spare time in the skies, with a first-class experience for guests and an especially attentive reception from our crew. Envision an outdoor-themed service for the hiking enthusiast, with guests in casual dress and keepsake camouflage water bottles for them to take on their next adventure. Your creativity combines with our team and flexible reception space to create a truly memorable experience.
With Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, you have plenty of options to find what's best for your unique situation. Choose a traditional religious funeral or a contemporary Celebration of Life®—or combine elements of both to create your own customized service. The funeral home's interfaith chapel welcomes celebrants of all backgrounds with classic Appalachian hospitality.
Those who choose cremation may opt to host a viewing before optional burial of cremated remains. Welcome your guests to a catered reception before or after the service. Professional caterers prepare and serve your food with care. From music to decor, count on us to cover every detail.
We honor veterans
At Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, we understand the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families. As a Level One Founding Community Partner with We Honor Veterans, our staff is knowledgeable in the benefits available to veterans and their families. With respect, integrity and dignity, we will walk you through the steps of creating a veteran's memorial service that truly honors the life and sacrifice of your loved one.
Sunset Memory Gardens cemetery
The 68-acre Sunset Memory Gardens was established by the Stump family in 1957. Some of Parkersburg's more prominent personalities are interred here. Sunset Memorial Funeral Home was built on the cemetery property in 1997, giving area residents a convenient place to plan a funeral.
Mature trees with seasonal foliage, gently rolling hills, bright flowers and well-manicured green spaces are hallmarks of the property, which includes Three Crosses Mausoleum, a distinctive choice for those who seek above-ground burial. It stands as a stately stone tribute to those memorialized within. Family estates offer the reassurance of a central gathering place for future generations.
The cemetery's Veterans Wall of Honor pays homage to the men and woman who served our country. A memorial tree and plaque dedicated to first responders commemorate the service of those who keep our community safe.
