History

In the late 1960s, Mr. Malcolm H. Williams, a Pensacola road builder, traded property he owned in the industrial section of Bayou Chico for a house and property at 619 New Warrington Road that was owned by State Representative Roy L. Hess at the time.

Malcolm and his wife, Myrtle, lived in the house only a few years before deciding, at the urging of a nephew who was a licensed funeral director in Georgia, to build a funeral home on the property. Using the existing house as the main entranceway into the facility, the Williams family, with the assistance of their son, W.H. Bill Williams, added a modern 12,000-square-foot facility, including the largest funeral home chapel in Pensacola, seating almost 300 people.

Building a business

The Williamses sought out and retained the best funeral directors in the area to serve families in need for their new funeral home. Mr. Zona Cutchen, a well-known Pensacola funeral director, was hired as the manager of Oak Lawn Funeral Home before it opened in December 1974.

In 1986, W.H. Bill Williams Jr. served as an apprentice funeral director under Zona and received his funeral director's license a year later.

Bill Sr. became the owner of the funeral home after the death of Malcolm Williams in 1975. He continued to operate the funeral home with Bill Jr. and Zona until 1988.

Today, Oak Lawn Funeral Home is a member of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, burial, cremation and cemetery providers, and we are committed to exceeding expectations.
