A caring Phoenix funeral home
The non-denominational Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary is a funeral home situated on the lush acreage of Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery. The funeral home has 2 chapels available for services. The largest chapel, Serenity, seats approximately 260 guests; Mortuary Chapel seats up to 140 guests. We can also help you arrange a service at your place of worship or another venue of your choosing. And though the funeral home sits on the grounds of the cemetery, you don't have to be buried there. We will happily and efficiently work with any cemetery you choose.
Personalized funerals and memorials
The funeral professionals at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary are committed to serving families of all belief systems and cultures with loving care, and we are dedicated to designing personalized funerals and memorials that capture unique personalities.
We believe funeral or memorial services should reflect the people being honored, and we create one-of-a-kind events that capture the passions of loved ones. Consider a breakfast taco buffet, an ice cream social or a sit-down dinner followed by fireworks. A funeral could have a golf theme complete with a golf cart processional, a delightful yarn bombing honoring the family knitter or suitcases spilling over with postcards and plane tickets for a world traveler. Personalized celebrations of life are our specialty. We help you imagine it and then we bring it into focus.
Our full-service funeral home has a private on-site crematory, which gives Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary complete control of a cremation, start to finish, and means your loved one never leaves our care. If you are unsure about cremation, a team member can explain the process to you. We can perform a cremation following a funeral service, preceding a funeral service or without a service at all. If you wish, cremated remains can be placed at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery or another of your choosing.
Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery
Occupying 192 acres of beautifully maintained lawns and gardens, our cemetery is the largest in Arizona. Four varieties of palms are among the many stately trees that provide visitors with shade on summer days.
Cemetery gardens and features
Walk through Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery and you will see a range of burial options including 2 mausoleum complexes, crypts, cremation niches and benches, private and semiprivate estates, and cremation scattering gardens. The cemetery’s expansive lawns are meticulously manicured and include 7 distinct gardens, several of which are dedicated to specific religions or our nation’s military veterans.
Our Lady of Guadalupe is our newest garden. It includes an octagon niche bank and year-round green lawns. A striking pagoda accents the Chinese Memorial garden, which was built and consecrated in 1991 in consultation with a feng shui master. The Garden of Guardian Angel, built in 2000, features a rotating statue of an angel watching over the garden. The angel makes a full turn every hour. The Field of Honor veterans garden, with an impressive black granite wall on which all our cemetery’s veterans names are engraved, provides a powerful backdrop for our annual Veterans Day and Memorial Day events.
Standing tall on our cemetery lawn is a bell tower. Constructed in 1910, it is dedicated to the memory of fallen members of the Phoenix Volunteer Fire Department. The year 2013 marked the 30th anniversary of our annual firefighters service, which is held each October. Honor guards, pipe bands and hundreds of family members pay their respects at this event each year.
We Honor Veterans
At Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary & Cemetery, we understand the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families. As a Level Four Founding Community Partner with We Honor Veterans, we are honored to serve our nation’s heroes and take this responsibility seriously. We have taken steps to ensure our staff is knowledgeable of all the benefits available to military veterans and their families.
In addition, we host community events annually in honor of our veterans and work closely with local veterans organizations. With respect, integrity and dignity, we will walk you through the steps of creating a veteran’s memorial service that truly honors the life and sacrifice of your loved one.
The Homeless Veterans Burial Program was founded in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, local medical examiners, coroners, veterans advocates and veterans organizations, on the belief that every veteran deserves a dignified and honorable burial. Through the program, homeless and indigent veterans are identified and provided with proper military burials.
Supporting public servants
Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary and Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery also support public servants. The Public Servants Program recognizes the courage and selflessness of those who serve. Through the program, we offer dignified and honorable funerals and burials, at no cost, for career and volunteer law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency services personnel who fall in the line of duty. In addition, the program offers extended counseling services to family members, as well as the opportunity to create an online tribute as a loving memorial.
Annual funeral home and cemetery events
Serving families in our community during very emotional times builds relationships that don't end when the service does. As part of our continued support, we invite you to join us for our annual community events.
The name of every veteran who is buried in our cemetery is engraved on our black granite veterans wall. This monument provides the backdrop for our Memorial Day and Veterans Day events. During our Veterans Day event, South Mountain High School’s JROTC places more than 10,000 flags on service members’ graves.
During the first week of November, we host our popular Día de los Muertos celebration. In years passed, as many as 5,000 people attended the festival, which celebrates Mexican culture and supports the spiritual journeys of those who have died. The event, which lasts the day, is fun for all ages. It includes face painters, food vendors and an evening mass.
No matter your religion, culture or beliefs, we know that the December holidays can be a particularly emotional time for those who have lost loved ones. During our non-denominational Night of Remembrance, we celebrate those lost, and families benefit from the healing power of community. We invite attendees to hang ornaments on our tree with the names and photos of loved ones or light candles in their loved ones' honor. Religious leaders are present at the event, which concludes with a lantern release.
