A large Perrysville funeral home
H.P. Brandt Funeral Home fosters a welcoming and comforting atmosphere. The funeral home is one of the larger in the Perrysville and North Hills area, and we are prepared for services of any size. The spacious chapel seats 100 guests and offers overflow seating options for larger services. Recent renovations make our chapel a light and bright environment.
A discreet cry room offers a convenient place for meditation or a quiet moment of privacy. Clergy often use this space to prepare their remarks before a memorial service. We’ve made the entire building wheelchair accessible, including an elevator, to provide a comfortable visit to seniors and physically challenged individuals.
We honor veterans
At H.P. Brand Funeral Home, we understand the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families. As a Level Three Founding Community Partner with We Honor Veterans, our staff is knowledgeable in the benefits available to veterans and their families. With respect, integrity and dignity, we will walk you through the steps of creating a veteran's memorial service that truly honors the life and sacrifice of your loved one.
Personalized funeral services
We take pride in providing excellent funeral services in the Pittsburgh area, especially when it comes to tailoring a funeral service. Our experienced team is trained to assist each and every family, regardless of your traditions and the type of memorial services you desire. We are experienced in conducting many types of religious and cultural funeral customs. Our funeral directors listen to your every need, helping you create the most fitting tribute.
For personalized funerals, we can make your vision a reality. In the past, we’ve brought motorcycles into our funeral home and decorated with bales of hay. Customization depends on the person we’re honoring, and we are here to create a memorialization as unique as your loved one.
Not everyone knows that there are many cremation options. If you are interested in cremation, the funeral home team can explain the process and different options. From a direct cremation without a memorial service or a witness cremation to a full funeral service before or after the cremation and more, we help you understand this increasingly common choice—and handle all of the cremation arrangements.
No matter which cemetery you choose, our staff works closely with local cemeteries to reduce the stress of this emotionally challenging time. We have close relationships with many cemeteries in the Pittsburgh area.
H.P. Brandt Funeral Home opened in 1902. For more than 110 years, we have provided dignified and affordable funeral services to the North Hills community.
Herman P. Brandt purchased the business—which consisted of merely a horse and buggy—from Messrs, Rape and Zener, who also ran a furniture store. That furniture store became Hieber’s General Store, which was a Perrysville landmark for many years before eventually becoming the location of Perrytowne Drafthouse.
In 1902, Herman bought the land and physical building for his funeral home from Dr. Lindley, the same Dr. Lindley for whom Lindley Lane was named. The funeral home operated in its original location for 35 years.
State Senator Herman P. Brandt
In June 1907, Herman P. Brandt married Allie Heid with whom he had 6 children. Herman had a growing interest in serving the public good and a couple of decades later, he became a state senator representing Pennsylvania's 40th Senatorial District from 1928 to 1932. He also served as justice of the peace for McCandless Township for 18 years.
Perry Highway & relocation
After years studying and visiting other successful funeral homes in the Tri-State area, Herman recognized the need to expand the funeral business to meet the needs of the growing community. After participating in the building of Perry Highway, he began construction on a new funeral home in July 1936. This new funeral home location opened in March 1937 at 1032 Perry Highway, where H.P. Brandt Funeral Home still operates to this day.
Our funeral home underwent an extensive renovation in 2001 to modernize and refresh the building. In 2016, we renovated and painted the chapel for a more contemporary, inviting feel. Our team is always looking to make improvements to better serve you.
We have continued our involvement in the community, a tradition that started with Herman P. Brandt and his service in Pennsylvania’s senate. Additionally, our funeral home is a collection site for Toys for Tots during the holiday season. Throughout the year, we also work with various community food banks as a food drive collection site. As part of our Fourth of July parade, we collect money for CureSearch, which contributes to pediatric cancer research.
We’re always looking to make a positive contribution to Perrysville and the North Hills community. If you think H.P. Brandt Funeral Home might be able to help your cause or organization, please reach out to see if we can help.
