About

We celebrate life

Let's start with a story. Every person has a unique life story and at Alvah Halloran & Son Funeral Home, we consider ourselves expert storytellers. We work with families to plan one-of-a-kind tributes that celebrate the passions and interests that make a person special.

We can find inspiration almost anywhere. Did he hit the slopes every weekend? Imagine a chapel decorated to look like a ski chalet with his treasured ski gear on display. We could work with a caterer to serve hot cocoa and a hearty beef stew. Envision a '60s dance party with the greatest hits playing and guests decked out in their grooviest getups. Suppose you want a traditional funeral service without all those bells and whistles? Don't worry; we're happy to do that, too. We're all about meeting your needs and wishes.

We care about Rochester

At Alvah Halloran and Son Funeral Home, we take great pride in our community involvement and give back as often as we can. We hold several community events annually, including a car show fundraiser, food drive and Halloween event for kids. Each year, these events grow in popularity and allow us to support many local organizations, including Hope Hall School.

Trusted funeral provider

We're proud to be a member of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery providers, offering compassionate care, personalized service and exceptional customer satisfaction.

We invite you to stop by Chili Avenue to meet our team and tour our funeral home. Please give us a call whether you have an immediate need, wish to plan in advance or want to learn more about our funeral and cremation services. We're here for you day and night.

History

The Halloran family has a long history of funeral service in the Rochester area. The late M. Alvah Halloran, a 2nd-generation funeral director, and his son, H. Daniel Halloran, established Alvah Halloran and Son Funeral Home in 1957 at our current Gates location on Chili Avenue. The original building was an old farmhouse that was converted into the funeral home. It remains among the oldest standing structures in the town of Gates.

Growing family business

As the business began to grow, more space was needed to accommodate the growing number of families the funeral home served. So in 1961, a large addition was added onto the original home structure.

In 1973, M. Alvah Halloran passed away unexpectedly. His son, Dan, ran the funeral home for many years after his father's passing and retired in the late 1990s. Since then, our beautiful funeral home with its picturesque setting has become a part of the Dignity Memorial network.
