Local funeral services
As a locally-operated funeral home in Scituate, we understand the needs of our community and strive to find new ways to respectfully honor your loved ones. One way we do this is by celebrating life. All of our funeral and memorial services are fully customizable, allowing us to provide a personal touch paired with the local care you expect.
Our team listens to every detail—such as your loved one's passions, interests and achievements—and uses those to plan a special tribute. Did they love animals or music? Did they serve our country's military? Feel free to share your stories and memories so we can create something friends and family will remember for generations.
Gather with friends, family
Our team understands the grief that comes after losing a loved one. We also know the importance of spending time with friends and family during this difficult time. Our Scituate funeral home warmly welcomes you to gather in our large chapel or intimate rooms to receive comfort and begin the healing process. We also offer a beautiful hospitality room, perfect for catered receptions through a 3rd-party caterer. Our focus is to provide a place where you feel at ease during your time of need.
In addition to helping families who need immediate assistance, our dedicated team can help plan funeral services in advance. Choosing this option ensures funeral costs are controlled and removes the burden of planning from those closest to you. We offer a variety of affordable options, which means you can pick the funeral or cremation services that best suit your needs.
Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home encourages all families to contact us or come by to chat. Our funeral directors are residents of Scituate and neighboring towns in the South Shore and look forward to serving you, our neighbors and friends.

A place of comfort
On September 17, 1955, Ernest A. “Ernie” Richardson opened the doors of the Ernest A. Richardson Funeral Home on First Parish Road in Scituate, Massachusetts. Mr. Richardson was known in Scituate for serving the needs of the community with love, compassion and unwavering dedication. For 30 years, he ran the funeral home and constantly worked to provide an establishment that residents of Scituate could take pride in.
Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home was established after the merging of the Ernest A. Richardson Funeral Home and the Edward J. Gaffey & Sons Funeral Home, which stood in North Scituate for many years.
Our Scituate funeral home was once a simple 1890s farmhouse that housed the town’s post office in the front room. Today, we offer an open, spacious venue with a large chapel and smaller rooms for more intimate gatherings. We are proud to be ever evolving with the needs of today’s families and still have the ability to serve our community with the same compassionate care on which our funeral home was founded.
