One-of-a-kind funeral celebrations
We begin by listening to you. Paint a picture of what really mattered in life—a favorite pastime, a lifelong hobby, an unmistakable trait—and we will work to weave the most important elements into a service that best reflects your loved one's personality. Envision one last trip to the driving range for the avid golfer in your life, with a range-themed ceremony replete with keepsake monogrammed golf balls for guests. Imagine a live string band playing a swing fan’s favorite hits, with guests remembering their companion in dress from the era. Whatever your wishes, our talented team will do our best to attend to almost any request.
Let us take care of the details so you can focus on family and friends. Food and drink, from our extensive menu or your personal recipe book, is served by our gracious catering team in whatever style you desire. Our vast reception space at Bisch & Son Funeral Home flexibly accommodates large reunions or intimate family gatherings, depending on your wish. Our interfaith chapel welcomes guests from all traditions and faiths, and our team receives your guests at arrival and departure.
Traditional religious ceremonies remain a classic choice. We offer burial with military honors to those who served our country, as well as cremation with optional burial of cremated remains for those who seek an alternative. Our location in Springfield allows us to serve our neighboring communities from Williamsville to Taylorsville and beyond.
Let us serve you
We deliver a century-old tradition of compassion to our clients. Please contact us for more information regarding funeral arrangements in Springfield or if you would simply like to tour our chapel.
In 1896, Charles T. Bisch, a local funeral director and carpet store owner, started the Charles T. Bisch Funeral Service on 6th Street, north of Washington Street, in Springfield, IL. As the business grew, he established a funeral home in the Lincoln Home area at 8th and Capital Streets, where he worked with his son, H.P. Bisch. In 1950, H.P. Bisch, his son Phil Bisch III and Charles T. Bisch opened the newly constructed Bisch and Son Funeral Home at our present location at 505 East Allen Street. Thus began Springfield’s first dedicated funeral home.
Our funeral home has two large chapels, beautiful archways and eclectic décor including furnishings purchased by Charles T. Bisch during the Chicago World’s Fair in the early 1900s. In 1982, a crematory was added to the location as the requests for cremation became more frequent. This addition was one of the first in Springfield, providing seamless professional care to those families requesting cremation. In 1995, a second funeral home was constructed on Springfield’s growing west side. This location offers single-level access, one formal chapel and one large great room that can be customized into three separate chapels. The funeral home is appointed with custom woodwork throughout.
In 1997, Phil’s sons Derek and Phillip Bisch IV, representing the fifth generation of the Bisch family, joined the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral and cemetery professionals. With the extended resources of the network, our strong commitment and service to all families of Springfield and the surrounding area continues to this day.
