Our funeral home
Located in downtown Stockton, convenient to Interstate 5, Highway 4 and Highway 99, DeYoung Memorial Chapel has ample street parking. It is close to San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery and Stockton Rural Cemetery.
There are 2 on-site chapels: One is quite large, with wooden benches, and the other is smaller with flexible seating. DeYoung Memorial Chapel also has plenty of room for gathering with friends and family. Should you wish to host coffee and tea, wine and cheese, or even lunch or dinner, we can handle food and beverage catering.
Caring, creative services
Our fine reputation is based on a pledge to serve families by offering the most compassionate funeral service available. Because we know that each life is different and every family is unique, our team at DeYoung Memorial Chapel is trained to listen carefully and help you design a personalized funeral or memorial service.
From a favorite song to a personal passion, we take the things that mattered to someone and string them together to create a singular, heartfelt memorial. Everyone has something that has informed their life. We turn that inspiration into a truly unique service filled with thoughtful and meaningful details.

In 1888, James Ford (father-in-law of C.C. "Mike" DeYoung) opened what he called his "undertaking establishment" at 117 S. Center St. in Stockton. In 1905, as the business grew and the city's population began to shift, James moved the funeral home to the corner of Washington and San Joaquin streets.
A rich legacy in Stockton
Around 1912, the thriving family business was operated by the partnership of Dennis O'Keefe and Mike. However in 1916, Chester Conklin purchased O'Keefe's interest in the company and the partners changed the funeral home name to DeYoung and Conklin.
In 1926, Chester died, leaving Mike as sole proprietor. Eleven years later, the family firm's name was changed again to DeYoung Memorial Chapel, and it moved to its current location at 601 N. California St. in Stockton.
In 1990, DeYoung Memorial Chapel opened a 2nd location: DeYoung Shoreline Chapel, at 7676 Shoreline Drive in Stockton. To date, DeYoung Shoreline Chapel is still the only funeral home in North Stockton.
Our funeral home today
For more than 80 years, 4 generations of the DeYoung family (James Ford, C.C. "Mike" DeYoung, C.K. "Bud" DeYoung and Mike Heffernan) operated the DeYoung funeral homes. In 2014, they became part of the Dignity Memorial® network of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers.
Today, DeYoung Memorial Chapel and DeYoung Shoreline Chapel remain the cornerstone of funeral services in Stockton, maintaining a legacy of excellence and following in the footsteps of their founders by giving back to the community in which we live and work.
