A focus on the Hispanic community
Our funeral home serves many cultures and faiths with dignity and respect. However, Funeraria del Angel South Lawn has performed thousands of funeral services for Hispanic families, and that is our specialty. Our staff is bilingual and experienced in the culture and traditions of Hispanic families. Our funeral home is spacious and comfortable, and it includes plenty of reception space both indoors and out.
Funeraria del Angel South Lawn has a private on-site crematory, and we offer extended visitation hours, as well as in-home visitation. Should your loved one need transport from the United States to another country, we will handle that as well.
Warm space, personal service
From the moment you come through our door and into our big, open lobby, you will feel welcome here. Our funeral arrangers are compassionate professionals who listen to what you say and handle all your arrangements with attention to detail. When you work with Funeraria del Angel South Lawn, you get more than a standard funeral: You get a celebration that honors a unique life in a unique way.
Built in the Spanish style, Funeraria del Angel South Lawn has 2 chapels: a main chapel with bench seating for about 125 people and a smaller chapel with flexible seating for 75. Our expanded reception area seats 100, and we absolutely love putting together personalized celebrations.
Before or after a funeral or memorial service, you can host anything from a breakfast buffet to an ice cream social to a sit-down dinner. We’ll bring in themed decor and favorite foods, hire musicians, dress in a certain color—whatever it takes to truly reflect the passion and personality of your loved one.
Private on-site crematory
For families who choose the time-honored tradition of cremation, our full-service funeral home has a private crematory on the property. This gives Funeraria del Angel South Lawn complete control of a cremation, start to finish, and means your loved one never leaves our care. You can choose a cremation following a funeral service, a cremation preceding a funeral service or cremation without a service at all. Should you so desire, cremated remains can be memorialized at South Lawn Cemetery.
We are proud to be part of the Jardines y Funerarias del Angel, which links a network of funeral homes and cemeteries in Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago, Rio Grande Valley, Miami, Tucson, Yuma, El Paso, Corpus Christi, Houston, San Antonio and Puerto Rico. We are also part of the Dignity Memorial® network, the largest group of funeral, cremation and cemetery providers in North America. These affiliations allow us to offer a wide range of services and benefits not available elsewhere.
We invite you to come meet us and tour Funeraria del Angel South Lawn. If you need to plan a funeral right away, please give us a call.
South Lawn Cemetery opened in 1936, when the population of Tucson was only around 34,000. It is one of the oldest active cemeteries in Tucson. Today, the 85-acre cemetery property has more than 17,000 interments, and we continue to serve Tucson with the utmost of care.
South Lawn Mortuary was built in 1979 on the grounds of South Lawn Cemetery. The official opening was in February 1980, and it was among Tucson’s 1st cemetery and mortuary combinations, making it easy for families to plan a funeral or memorial, cremation and burial at sister locations. The mortuary quickly became an important part of the Tucson community and a preferred resource for Hispanic families in the area.
In the late 1980s, South Lawn Mortuary and South Lawn Cemetery joined what is now known as the Dignity Memorial® network, the largest provider of funeral, burial, cremation and cemetery services in North America.
In 2007, South Lawn Mortuary became part of the Jardines y Funerarias del Angel brand, which links a network of funeral homes and cemeteries in Los Angeles, San Diego, Chicago, Rio Grande Valley, Miami, Tucson, Yuma, El Paso, Corpus Christi, Houston, San Antonio and Puerto Rico. It was at that time that the name of the funeral home changed to Funeraria del 'Angel South Lawn.
South Lawn Cemetery
South Lawn Cemetery opened on Park Avenue in South Tucson in 1936 and continues to serve Tucson families with the utmost of care. Funeraria del Angel South Lawn (originally South Lawn Mortuary) was built on the property in 1979, allowing for the convenience of funeral, burial, cremation and cemetery arrangements at sister locations.
Burial options for all
Comprising 85 acres, our sweeping cemetery property embodies tranquility. On 2 sides, the Santa Catalina Mountains rise majestically in the distance. Inside the cemetery, mature trees and granite statuary pepper green lawns that span as far as the eye can see. We are a welcoming place, and South Lawn Cemetery can accommodate your burial preference or religious requirement.
We offer in-ground burial, including double-depth lawn crypts and private family estates.
Designated areas of the cemetery allow for upright monuments; other areas accommodate flat granite markers or bronze-on-granite memorials. The Garden of Little Angels is set aside for infants and children.
For those who desire above-ground entombment, there are 2 mausoleums. North of the main cemetery entrance, Skylawn Mausoleum has interior and exterior crypts and glass- and granite-front niches. The interior courtyard is a peaceful place to reflect and remember lives lost. With crypts and granite-front niches, Skyview Mausoleum sits south of the main cemetery entrance. It is an open-air structure.
Families choosing cremation can consider our scattering garden, a cremation niche or a cremation memorial bench. Cremation memorialization options include brick niches, cored post markers, an ossuary and 2 cenotaph memorial books.
South Lawn Cemetery has 4 sections reserved for U.S. military veterans and their families: Veterans Island East, Veterans Island West, Veterans Island South and Garden of Tribute.
The upright memorial in Veterans Island South is a dedication to the Dignity Memorial® Vietnam Wall Experience that South Lawn hosted in 2005. When the event was over, we collected the memorabilia left at the 3/4-scale version of the Vietnam Wall Memorial in Washington, D.C., and buried it at the cemetery in a time capsule vault.
A large “V” sculpture at the intersection of Veterans Island East and Veterans Island West is dedicated to the servicemen and servicewomen of the U.S. armed forces.
The Garden of Tribute is the main garden of honor for our veterans. Here is where we host the VFW Post 549 Ritual Ceremony each Memorial Day.
Guided cemetery tours
Funeraria del Angel South Lawn and South Lawn Cemetery are part of the Dignity Memorial® network, the largest group of funeral, burial, cremation and cemetery providers in North America.
We invite you to see our beautiful cemetery property for yourself. You are welcome to visit South Lawn Cemetery anytime; if you would like a guided tour and more information about our services, please call us.
Arizona is cowboy country, and Funeraria del Angel South Lawn is honored to send off cattle ranchers and caballeros in grand style. Following Western tradition, we will saddle up your loved one’s favorite horse and lead it through the funeral procession to the graveside. (If no horse is available, we will happily provide a noble and worthy animal.) Likewise and fittingly, we give the cowboy (or cowgirl!) his last ride in a horse-drawn hearse, from an elegant glass enclosure to a simple buckboard—whatever suits your loved one’s personal style.
Día de los Muertos celebration
The largest event in our cemetery each year, our Día de los Muertos celebration recognizes and supports families with a tradition of honoring their loved ones on this special day. Thousands of guests fill the cemetery for cookouts, cocktails and a ceremony overflowing with color and sweet memories. Festivities last from mid-afternoon until well into the evening and include a processional that ends in a prayer service, an altar-decorating contest, face painting and an evening movie.
We cherish the community we serve and invite you to join us for our upcoming events.
