Claire Garneau, 84, of Indianapolis, passed away July 6, 2020 with her family by her side. Claire was born March 20, 1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to the late John Albert and Mary Esther (Fonash) Field. She was the middle girl of 11 children. She graduated from Little Flower Catholic High School in Philadelphia.

Claire was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church. When she was younger, she enjoyed roller skating and used to dance on the original American Bandstand. She enjoyed arts and crafts, especially quilting. She enjoyed family and being with her girls most of all. Her favorite food was anything chocolate.

Claire is survived by her four daughters, Elizabeth Ann (Trevor) Jones, Jo Ann (Chip) Hopkins, Jeanette Marie Garneau, and Cheryl (Francis) Wyatt; 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and two brothers, John (Mary) Field and Vince Field. She was preceded in death by her lifelong companion and soulmate, Martin “PaPa” Helmkamp.

A memorial calling will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2020 from 2-4 PM at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 13, 2020 at 11:30 AM at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 Holliday Drive East, Indianapolis, Indiana. Burial to follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery.

Mrs. Garneau was an ever-present mom in my life, always opening her door to me, the girl down the street who was best friends with her daughter, Jo Ann. She always welcomed me and spent endless hours supervising me and my brothers when we raced to her house to swim on hot summer days. May she rest in peace.

Claire sure will miss you sitting out in the lobby on your go cart reading,playing games on your I pad .listening to you and exchanging conversations with each other.your a friend that everyone likes.God Bless you and your family .such a loving family.
