Kazuko “Kay” or “Mama-san” Douchette, age 91, of Mystic, passed away peacefully at Mystic Healthcare, on Tuesday, May 7, 2024. She was the beloved wife of the late John Douchette who predeceased her in 1982.
The daughter of Seisuke and Ai Shimada, Kay was born in Tokyo, Japan, and emigrated to the United States in 1958 after marriage to her former husband, Edward “Ed” Pracukowski. (d. 2006), the father of her only son, who they both adored. While both Kay and Ed went on to remarry, they remained in touch throughout their lives.
Kay worked in textile manufacturing for many years while raising her son, eventually retiring in 1990. Kay enjoyed many long and happy years in retirement where she spent time with friends enjoying trips to New Jersey to visit family, weekly lunches at Koto Japanese Steak House with friends, daily trips to Dunkin Donuts for her favorite ice coffee, and to The Shack for breakfast at the counter. Kay also enjoyed visiting both Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, where she played her favorite games of Bingo, Slots, and Blackjack!
Kay treasured her family and friends and leaves behind her beloved son, Frank Pracukowski and his wife, Donna Capoverde of Mystic, many nieces and nephews, and many loving friends.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Mystic Healthcare and Beacon Hospice for the care, comfort, and compassion they provided to Kay.
Visiting hours at the Fulton Theroux Funeral Home, 181 Ocean Ave, New London will be held on Saturday, June 1 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by Funeral Service at 11am and interment at Colonel Ledyard Cemetery in Groton.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Kay to Mystic Healthcare Resident’s Activities Fund, 475 High Street, Mystic, CT 06355.
