Unique funeral services

Memorialization at Murphy Funeral HomesIt is our belief that funeral and memorial services should be just as unique and special as the life being celebrated. From photographs and music to video tributes and customized keepsakes, a personalized service can be as simple or elaborate as you desire. We take all of the things that a person loved, such as a treasured poem, lifelong passion or even a favorite color, and weave them together to create a memorial like no other.

Did he hit the links every weekend? Imagine a putting green in the chapel and a personalized golf ball for every guest. Was she an accomplished artist? We can transform our facility into an art gallery and hang her paintings on our walls.

No matter what you envision, our experienced team will go the extra mile to make it a reality.

Cremation services in Arlington

We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways, and families love our transparent pricing. With expertise in scattering ashes and a friendly team who pays attention to every detail, we provide service that is second to none.

More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:

  • a cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind.
  • a funeral with your loved one present, followed by cremation.
  • a cremation followed by a scattering, cemetery memorialization or celebration of life—or all three.

For those who wish for a more momentous memorial, Neptune Memorial Reef is an underwater cremation garden off the coast of Florida. A Celestis Memorial Spaceflight takes ashes into space for a little while or forever.

There are many options for cremation—and they're not all equal. Here's what you can expect when you choose us for your loved one's cremation:

  • Custody of care guaranteed. Our custody-of-care program helps safeguard the identification of your loved one from the time we bring them into our care until the time we return them to your family. We check, cross-check and check again, every step of the way.
  • Exclusive custody of your loved one. We use only crematories owned and operated by Dignity Memorial® providers or trusted partners. Once your loved one is in our custody or that of a trusted partner, they’re in our care until they’re returned to your family.
  • Licensed, certified, conscientious staff. All Dignity Memorial crematory operators are licensed and certified by Cremation Association of North America, or CANA. Only one person at a time is cremated, and the cremation chamber is thoroughly cleaned before the next person is cremated.

History

Murphy Funeral HomesRobert J. Murphy and his wife, Betty, opened Murphy Funeral Homes on Columbia Pike in Arlington, Virginia, in 1956. Together with their growing family of eight children, they worked to ensure that the funeral home's quality and professional services were recognized within the Northern Virginia community. Responding to the needs of the community, they opened another location in 1965 in Falls Church at 1102 West Broad Street. In 1974, they relocated the Arlington location to a larger home at 4510 Wilson Boulevard.

Honoring our legacy

With more than 60 years of service, we continue to serve our Arlington families with the friendly, professional service that they have become accustomed to. As our Northern Virginia community has grown and evolved, we have responded to its changing needs.

At Murphy Funeral Homes, our caring and compassionate associates are guided by a quote from Mr. Murphy, our founder: "You don't make yourself known. You make yourself worthy of being known."

"Rachel, our funeral director, was exceptional. Understanding that this is a difficult time for our family and friends, she was patient, kind and professional throughout the entire process. There were issues (as with any event) but none were caused by her or the Murphy Funeral Home Team. The key takeaway is that Rachel was able to help us corre

ct the issues (the out of stock casket, the design limitation on our keepsakes, the last minute escort service to the cemetery, the delivery of the death certificates from another funeral home from another state, and so much more). She listened to us, understood what was important, and ultimately helped us celebrate our loved one's life in the best way possible. 'Thank you' doesn't seem enough to express how much we truly appreciate Rachel and the Murphy Funeral Home Team for all that they've done for our family."

"It is a difficult time when you lose a loved one. It is even harder when you have to make all sorts of preparations for a burial, a service and maybe a reception. Murphy's Funeral Home made it so much less stressful for us. We only had to meet with Rachel one time and she took care of the rest. She took the time to answer all of our questions.

She coordinated everything so we didn't have to make any other calls. We also found their prices very affordable. But it wasn't about that. They treated our mother with respect and loving care. We couldn't have asked for a better send off!!"
